PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Last Tuesday, Montair Elementary, was selected to present to the SRVUSD School Board. It was so wonderful to have a group of staff members and our PTA and Foundation Presidents there to help celebrate Montair. We even had a surprise visit by our Roadrunner!

As nervous as I was to speak in front of the Board, once I started talking about our amazing school, it got easier and easier to share all that we have in place to serve our kids. I had the chance to share about our Learning Lab. We have two certificated teachers and one instructional assistant on staff who work to serve our kids who are struggling in math or reading. We have paraprofessionals in every classroom, supporting small group instruction and individualized learning. Our teachers offer WIN Time (whatever I need) to ensure that all of our students are getting the support and challenge they need. We provide opportunities for our kids to find their passions and to shine whether in drama, music, art, run club, makerspace, gardening, and leadership. We have so many family and community events ranging from Movie Nights to Carnival. We have a school that values and focuses on inclusion and acceptance of ALL kids through Circle of Friends, Inclusion and Diversity Club, and Pledge to Humanity.  Many of the programs that I referred to, that make our school so special, are funded by our parent community in their contributions to the Montair Foundation. I am grateful to every parent who made a donation at registration, bid on items during the online auction, and bought tickets to the live auction event February 29.

RASPBERRY PI BIRTHDAY JAM

Presented by the San Ramon Valley Education Foundation Imagineering Program

Saturday, February 29, 2020 from 9 am to 1 pm at both Los Cerros MS and California HS

The SRVEF is excited to join the global celebration with the Raspberry Pi Foundation to celebrate the eighth birthday of the Raspberry Pi computer (or its second birthday, depending on how strict you are about counting leap years)!

The Raspberry Pi is a powerful, yet inexpensive, micro-computer that is the perfect tool for an introduction to hardware and physical computing. Our goal is to provide a platform for students to gain the technical expertise needed to thrive in the highly competitive global environment. Getting comfortable with coding and the ability to work in functional teams are two major skills we intend to promote along with rewarding technical literacy skills and creativity.

At this event, student teams will be given a challenge that requires them to work in Python. They will work hands-on with sensors, LEDs, and other components, and use programming to control circuits.

Sign up for either location at:  http://bit.ly/srvef_imagineering

The Birthday Jam at Los Cerros Middle School will be led by Rae Anne Crandall and Erin Lopez, and at California High School by Sean Raser. All our instructors are Raspberry Pi Certified, SRVUSD teachers, and are members of our SRVEF Imagineering Team.
