PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
This month our character trait of the month is Kindness. We kicked off this trait with Words Matter Week. Our PTA supplied us with activities to reinforce the positive power of words. We had a huge donut wall where students got to “sprinkle” some kind words. We had a scavenger hunt with positive words hidden all around campus. I saw many students get words of encouragement and love notes from their parents in their lunches. It was so awesome! As part of our study, we are reading the book, I Walk With Vanessa , by Kerascoët. In this book, a new girl is treated very badly by another boy at school. He yells at and threatens her. This book focuses on the actions taken by someone who sees this incident. This other girl comes up with an action plan and finds a way to make a difference and show kindness that spreads throughout the school. When reading this to the kids, I love hearing what they notice. They talked about how the kid who was mean, also looked lonely in another section of the story. They wondered about why he acted the way he did. I heard empathetic and insightful comments by students about how we can’t judge this boy by this one act. We need to understand and give chances. The class discussions are a highlight of my day and clearly demonstrate how sensitive and caring our kiddos at Montair are.

Thank you for working with us on safety at the back gate.

Enjoy the MTTV Leadership Announcements from last week. We have some new school rules explained here.

Here’s to another KIND week of learning together!
