Dear Montair Families,
We begin the official weekly schedule this week. Mondays will follow the schedule your children experienced last week. Tuesday-Friday classes take place from 8:00-1:00 for TK/K and from 8:00-2:25 for grades 1-5. In addition to whole class lessons, teachers will teach small groups throughout the day to allow for more individualized instruction and guidance. When students are not receiving small group instruction, students will work independently until their assigned small group time. Please refer to your child’s schedule for their live teaching session schedule.
This week also begins our full duration PE classes. PE classes are 50 minutes long and consist of 30 minutes of synchronous instruction and 20 minutes of asynchronous instruction. Our PE teachers, Mrs. Friend and Mrs. Thau have designed their instruction so students are not in front of a screen for the full 50 minute class period. The first 20 minutes are check in, fitness based activities including stretching, strength training and cardio. At the end of these 20 minutes, they will give students a couple of activities to do away from their screens. The goal is for students to be moving for the next 20 minutes. Students return online for the last 10 minutes for the end of PE check in where they share what they did and how it made them feel. Classes end with thumbnail sketches of two famous athletes and a reminder to stay healthy and active. Mrs. Friend and Mrs. Thau thank you for encouraging students to stay active during the 20 minutes of "on your own activity time".
One way students can stay active during their independent activity time is to participate in SRVEF Run for Education. The Run for Education is going VIRTUAL in 2020 - and our school WINS! A virtual run is a race where you can run, jog, walk or roll for the distance of your choosing. This event will be a fundraiser for the San Ramon Valley Education Foundation and OUR school with 40% of registration net proceeds going directly to Montair Elementary School. Additionally, the Run for Education is setting up pledge pages for every participant that will allow us to raise even more money with 70% of those donations coming directly to us.
Given our current situation, this is a great way to help our school make up for potential budget shortfalls we might have this year. Registration is open at www.srvef.org The low registration price of $25 includes a cape for Mini runners and Friendship and Virtual runners receive a running buff! Also, the Montair Foundation will be delivering a special surprise to your home once you register for the race. Look out Roadrunners :)
We look forward to seeing you all in action!
Warmly,
Elizabeth Lyons, Ed.D
