It is official, there will be 4 retail licenses in Monterey, CA! The merit based process, application fees and guidelines will be approved by city council during their December 5th meeting, at which point they should announce upcoming application dates.

App dates: An initial 45-day storefront and non-storefront retail application screening period (scheduled to begin Nov. 27, 2023 and close Jan. 11, 2024)
City is planning to hold the second reading of their adult use ordinance on November 21st, with a simultaneous adoption of application fees at the same meeting.
City will allow 4 storefront retail licenses, 1 delivery license, and unlimited distribution and testing lab licenses
This will be a competitive merit based process
There are four designated cannabis zones in the city and each one will be allowed one storefront retail license
Applications may be accepted without having secured a physical business location, but there will likely be a limited amount of time allowed following licensure to secure a location.
