School is officially back in session! Thanks to the California State Library, we now provide access to Tutor.com for all library members. Check out HomeworkCA on our eResources page. This online service provides free English or Spanish tutoring for K-12 students on a number of topics including:
- Topics including English, Math, Social Studies, Writing, Languages, etc.
- Career Technical Education (CTE) topics like Communications, Criminal Justice, and Hospitality Management
- ACT and SAT help
- AP subjects
- College admission prep from The Princeton Review with practice tests
- And more!
We're thankful for the California State Library for providing this service for our community, and we hope that you share it with any students & educators that may be interested. The Monterey Public Library is interested in continuing to provide high quality learning opportunities for everyone in our community. Services like this are a great tool for expanding access to busy students and families.
We're looking forward to the return of class visits at our library & museum sites once again. By the way, is it just me, or does it seem like school starts way earlier now? Summer just breezed past and the kids are already back in school...I feel like my school would start much later in my youth. Either way, I'm wishing all a school year full of exploration, education, and connection!

| | HAVE YOU BEEN TO THE PRESIDIO OF MONTEREY MUSEUM? | | |
Located in the Lower Presidio Historic Park and above the Lighthouse Curve in downtown Monterey, some historians call the The Presidio of Monterey Museum “the most historically significant site on the West Coast.”
Exhibits lead visitors through Monterey's various stages of military development, from the Indigenous period through the Spanish and
Mexican periods to the present day. Because of the important role
of the military in Monterey between 1902 and today, the majority
of the exhibits are dedicated to the development of the Presidio as
an army training base. Extraordinary Valor: The Lost History of the
Buffalo Soldiers in Monterey is the current exhibit.
There is no entrance fee.

Before They Vanish series. Hear the extraordinary story of “Libraries Beneath the Sand” as Dorsey recounts his journey to Timbuktu, Mali, to visit the libraries that once rivaled those of Alexandria. His story introduces us to the famed “Blue Men" of the Sahara and the ancient village of Arouane.
Unaware of the heavy presence of Al Qaeda in the northern Maghreb of Mali or its rapid movement south to attack Timbuktu, Dorsey was recruited to join the Tuareg nomads on an epic journey to evacuate the libraries and distribute priceless manuscripts across the lower Sahara, where they were buried by nomad families until it was safe to return them.
