Greetings!
Our calendar is packed with great events at the Monterey Public Library this month, but don't miss some of the happenings inside Colton Hall!
In 1849, Military Governor Bennet Riley called a Constitutional Convention in Monterey; 48 delegates met in Colton Hall to discuss slavery, women's rights, site of the state capitol, state borders and other critical issues leading to the formation of the 31st state. From September 1st - October 13th 1849 the delegates met, and the California constitution was approved October 10-11, 1849. Limited seats are still available to watch the Constitutional Convention reenactment this Sunday, October 15th at 2pm, nearly 174 years later. Make sure to register at the link below.
How can you inspire others and recognize the history we are making today? Join poet, essayist, and professor Daniel Summerhill for a poetry and writing workshop "What History are You Making?" on Friday, October 20th at 2pm. The choices we make today are impacting our future and creating history for future generations. Make sure to register at the link below.
For a lively performance, join the strings and woodwind ensembles from Youth Music Monterey as they play on Saturday October 21st and Sunday October 22nd inside Colton Hall. Both performances are at 2:30pm.
We're excited to bring performances and life into Colton Hall. The floors and walls seem to talk each time you walk inside the space, and it's fantastic to add to the story of Colton Hall through activating the space.
Warmly~
Brian
