Greetings!
What is Library Joy? One of our library colleagues in Solano County sparked social media interest in "Library Joy" with his personal stories about the experiences he had growing up, and the experiences of families in the library. If you know Mychal Threets personally, he is an incredibly warm, authentic, and kind individual who loves his library.
For my Library Joy - I think about the feeling of belonging when you first walk into the building. The experience may be the smell of books, the visual or organized stacks, learning a new skill, or seeing welcoming faces from your community inside.
I think about the parent or caregiver here in the library with young children...and the joy on their faces as they explore a welcoming space! Your joy brings me joy.
I think about the serendipity of looking up a topic in the California History Room, but then learning new pieces of information or finding out how different eras of history are tied together. I feel like Indiana Jones at that moment.
I think about my son strutting through the library and choosing stacks and stacks of items that stir his curiosity. The pride he has in learning is contagious.
Mychal Threets has since left Solano Library, but never fear! He'll be working with PBS to highlight books for young readers and will continue his advocacy work around the country.
What is your Library Joy?
Warmly~
Brian

Edie doing the “saving.”
