Greetings!

It's the time of the year where libraries celebrate summer reading & learning through gamification, or making game boards and rewards for reading. Why do libraries highlight reading specifically during the summer rather than year round?

Many educators talk about the "summer slide" or basically how learning becomes stagnant or decreases while kids are out of school. However. we've once again opened our Summer Reading Program for all ages. Remember that we are all continuously learning; we continuously learn after exiting high school or college. Parents and caregivers should definitely join their children to show that learning never stops, and that reading helps us to reflect on the past, understand our present, and forecast the future. We've also included activities on the game board that promote growth and learning! Remember that learning doesn't end when school ends...the library reflects your individual path towards education and learning moving forward.

The Library is hosting a number of programs this summer for all ages. Our theme is "Level Up at Your Library" and we hope that you find something this summer that keeps your brain engaged to hit that next level. Learn from a neighbor, play a board game, read a book you love, read a book you hate, try out a new language...just keep your brain engaged!

As for "why just the summer?" well, I think the Summer Slide is a great way to remind all ages that it's not just kids that need to keep reading & learning. Let's continue to create a well informed and connected community!

Warmly,

Brian

For thousands of years, magicians have

entertained audiences at live shows, birthday

The uncertainty, wild illusions, and inquisitive desire to understand makes magic so intriguing.
