We're excited to launch our Library Lockers on Tuesday, January 20th!
These will be additional pickup sites for you to request your books & audio items for pickup, and will be available 24/7! We've installed these outside Monterey Sports Center and our Montecito Fire Station #13 & Montecito Park.
How will these work? Starting January 20th, you will be able to choose "Montecito" or "Monterey Sports Center" as pickup locations in addition to our Bookmobile, Monterey Public Library, or Pacific Grove from our library catalog. Library staff will be visiting the sites multiple times per week to load your items requested into an individual locker. (lockers rotate based on availability) Once you get an alert that your item is ready for pickup, you can scan your card at the touchscreen and an individual locker pops open with your requests inside! Once you remove the items from the locker they automatically checkout to your account. Close the locker door and you are good to go. Pro-tip: download our Monterey Public Library app so that you have a digital version of your library card ready to scan, or take a photo of your library card barcode so that you always have it with you.
Why add these in the community? Similar to our variety of weekly Bookmobile stops, our goal is to increase access to resources for our library members who can't reach the physical building due to a variety of reasons. We often have busy individuals and families that want to pick up their requests in the evening after they get off work, or early in the morning...these pickup sites allow us to help reach you during your busy lives, while increase access to positive learning habits. We placed them in areas where we hope to have a high impact.
We will soon have a FAQs webpage on how to use the lockers, but I'm excited to share that these are coming soon. Oh and I hope you like the design! I did digital drawings on my tablet that reflected Monterey; my goal was to make it stand out so that people stop and say "hey, what is this??" while using some of the similar design language from our library cards, banners, and flyers. The manufacturer gave us their "Outstanding Locker Design Award" for the graphics. We look forward to launching these for y'all soon!
