Greetings,
The Palace Project website is now live! Wait, what is "The Palace Project"? Similar to Libby (Overdrive) or Cloud Library (3M), it is a collection development tool for our library to provide expanded access to eBooks and eAudiobooks for the community. Palace has the additional ability to aggregate the different collections into a single app.
Monterey Public Library was one of the early libraries to add this digital collection back in 2022. The initial collection was added entirely free as part of a California State Library program, funded as part of the "eBooks For All" funded by ARPA (American Rescue Plan Act). At that time the collection was solely app based, but the website now allows you to view content via a web browser. The goal of Palace is to provide Monterey Public Library (and other libraries) a shared collection of materials with other libraries, and a combined buying power to decrease our individual costs for materials that we add to the collection. We're happy to see that the website content and hosting is provided through Lyrasis and the California State Library at no additional cost to our library.
Digital content is pricey and budgets are tight. Our Library continues to look for ways to provide service to meet your needs! We know that with busy lives, travelling light, or listening while on the go means that people prefer eBooks and eAudio. It's increasingly important that we find ways to provide content in a variety of formats for the community.
Be patient with us as we learn the website! It just launched earlier this week. To see a list of all the titles that the California State Library provides, or to learn more about the California's Bookshelf project, check out the California State Library website. Palace is now available on the web, Apple iOS or Android devices. Enjoy and keep learning!!
Warmly,
Brian
