Greetings!

It's the spooky season! Pumpkin spiced everything surrounds us, the moon is shining bright, night is arriving earlier every day, and wait are those Los Vigilantes Oscuros (Dark Watchers) in the mountains?

Do we have ghost stories in Monterey? We sure do - just check out some of the books in our collection about our local tales. Places like the Old Jail, Vasquez Adobe, and Stokes Adobe have stories from locals. Rumors have abounded for years about Colton Hall. What are your thoughts and or experiences? Mine is that there is tremendous power in the art of storytelling. We give power and energy to what we see and talk about. Legends continue to grow, and we provide life through story. Cultures thrive through language, story, and imagery generation after generation. The same way that an exploding star provides critical elements throughout the solar system, our unique stories provide life and extend memories for generations.

Anyways, enough of my weird philosophy. We have some fun events for all ages coming up to celebrate pumpkin season! We are collaborating with our colleagues at the City of Monterey Parks & Recreation and Monterey Sports Center as well this month. Because part of Halloween is having fun with your friends. Enjoy and see you at the library!

Warmly~

Brian
