Wow - I've got a whale of tail for you! Sorry for the pun, but have you seen our life-size blue whale fluke (tail) inside the library?

We received a grant from StarNet Libraries to receive resources & host programs on the beautiful blue whales that pass through Monterey Bay every year. One of the items we received was a life-size 10' x 25' fluke floormat that now sits inside the library. We are looking forward to bringing in events this fall related to our local whales and partnering with our community by hosting events outside our walls...stay tuned! (and if you have more ideas for whale-themed programs please let me know)

I'm excited to host this fluke as a way for kids of all ages to experience the true size of a blue whale. Our whales are an important part of the Monterey Bay ecosystem. Take a photo with it - we won't judge! If you are a bit shy, but still interested in whales, hop onto Zoom at 4pm on Thursday July 27th to listen to Tim Thomas talk about the history of whaling in Monterey.

Warmly~
Brian
BLUE ZONES ARE ALL THE RAVE...
Ever wonder why some people live to over 100 years old? Blue zones, as they are called, are regions around the world where people regularly live to triple digits. The “OG” five original blue zones include Okinawa, Japan; Sardinia, Italy; Nicoya, Costa Rica; Ikaria, Greece; and Loma Linda, California. Studies were done to understand how many people in these communities remained healthy, physically and mentally, up through their elder years. Much of this success is based on lifestyles that prioritize social connection, healthy eating, movement, purpose, and belonging.

Tonight the Blue Zones Project offers a fun summertime cooking demo with Chef Chris Vicioso, from Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula (CHOMP). He has taught Cooking for Life classes for the community and will offer recipes and sample tastings.
