Greetings!

What are you thankful for this year? Looking back this year, I think there are a few things that stick out to me. I know that I'll forget something...but here are a few that I'm still thinking about! I appreciate our wonderful library staff and volunteers who have made the Monterey Public Library the "best of Monterey County" for 16 consecutive years.

We replaced our Bookmobile this year with a new vehicle and added new stops to our rotation. The Bookmobile visits senior living, preschools, schools, and different neighborhoods in the community.

We added Monday afternoon hours back to the Library. This increased us to 6 days per service, and allowed the library to open our doors to students who often waited outside a closed library on Mondays.

We updated some of our physical spaces - the Children's area of the Library added new movable shelving, a quiet sensory space, along with child appropriate computers and furniture. We've updated our community room space, and also added two new privacy booths in the library.

We created digital collections of historic Monterey photos, and continued our preservation efforts in the California History Room.

I look forward to 2025 and collaborating with the community to keep the library focused on the past, present, and the future!

Happy holidays & cheers everyone.

Warmly~

Brian

BRING STORYTIME

"HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS"

The winter program break

is the perfect time to bring

Storytime "Home for the Holidays."

Here are some fun storytime tips to try at home:

-Create a fun story time setting like a picnic on your living

room floor or pitch a tent and bring flashlights to read in the dark

-Set a timer -- 20 - 30 minutes is a good reading time goal

-Plan for a break that may include songs, puppets,

and or some physical movement

-At the end of your storytime, pretend you are in the library

and “check out” books off your bookshelf --

keep the reading momentum going

We can’t wait to see you back at

MPL Storytime on Friday, January 17th

and look forward to hearing all about your

Storytime Home for the Holidays adventures!
