A Message From Montgmery County On The Ridge Pike Project
Montgomery County shared the following message on September 12.
"We understand everyone’s frustration with the progress of construction on Section D, particularly the road closure at Barren Hill Road which is currently exacerbating the issue. We want to give you an update on the situation. The project is still at the mercy of the utility companies…
Unfortunately we (the county and Alan Myers) were told by PECO Gas that when we closed Barren Hill Road they would move their lateral relocations from Ridge Pike between Northwestern Avenue and Manor Road to relocating their gas main operations on Barren Hill Road. That is why Barren Hill Road was closed when it was, to accommodate PECO Gas operations. Unfortunately the situation was more complex for them than they expected and it has delayed their movement to Barren Hill Road. The county does not own Barren Hill Road, PennDOT does, and PennDOT was very accommodating when they approved our request to close Barren Hill and detour it. Because of that, we cannot just lift the detour now and replace it next week when PECO anticipates moving there. We have received many emails, and phone calls regarding this situation and just ask for your continued patience. There are a lot of moving parts out of our control that don’t always fall into place when expected. County officials are reaching out to PECO to get them to confirm a date when they’ll begin.
Now, for the flagging situation between Harts/Church Road and Barren Hill. We are currently installing new sanitary laterals and a tie-in to the existing sanitary main on Park Ave. The current main that runs along the existing curb line on the north side of the road is being eliminated. Unfortunately, in order to maintain the flow from the three properties from Park Ave to Harts lane, the sanitary services need to be run to the live main on the south side of the road which requires crossing the travel lanes. This same situation goes for the tie-in at Park Ave, this was an unforeseen situation. The bulk of the work will occur in the closed portion of the road but there is a manhole and that needs to be abandoned and replaced in the travel lane. Alan Myers has constructed a temporary lane to accommodate this stage of construction. This work started last Friday and will continue through Wednesday of this week.
We recognize that traffic is increasing again post-Labor Day. Know that we are doing our best to minimize disruptions and construct the project as quickly as we can. Thank you for your continued understanding and patience."
