We are Thankful

The Volunteer Center wishes to thank the volunteers who do so much for others in our community. If you are looking for new opportunities to serve, read on!

—From the Volunteer Center Staff

In November, You Can Weed, Feed and Lead!

A quick look at the November calendar on the MontgomeryServes website shows many, many ways you can serve. Here, we highlight just a few of them.

Weeding!

Join a Weed Warrior Workday with Montgomery Parks or the City of Rockville. Help root out non-native, invasive vines and shrubs, clean up streams and more. Click the calendar dates or visit the organizations' web pages.

Feeding!

There are multiple opportunities to help with food pantries and delivery around the County. Click here for a listing of opportunities, or click the calendar to search by date! (It feels great to bring food to people—especially around Thanksgiving.)

Leading!

The upcounty group, Cabin Branch Events, is seeking youth leaders for community service. (You can earn SSL hours, too!) Opportunities include:

  • Youth Leader (high school students or adult volunteers).
  • Youth Engagement Coordinator (high school or middle school students).
  • Youth Facilitator (middle school students).

For more information visit the web page or email Anurag Gupta at eventscabinbranch@gmail.com.

It's That Time Again!

The Tax-Aide program is looking for volunteers for the next tax season. Multiple opportunities are available, including technology support, tax counselor, client facilitator and appointment scheduler. There are many places to volunteer across the County, as well as remote options. Information sessions are scheduled for early November. Check out the recruitment flyer, visit our web page for more information or email taxaide4mc@gmail.com with questions.

Spotlight On: Shepherd's Table

Shepherd's Table helps people who are homeless or in need by compassionately providing basic services, including meals, social services, medical support, clothing and other assistance. Based in Silver Spring, the group needs volunteers for a wide variety of tasks, from helping with job searches to preparing or serving food. Students can earn SSL hours, too.

Visit their web page for more information, or contact Marcy Merti at marcym@shepherdstable.org.

SAVE THE DATES! In 2025,  there are multiple opportunities to serve and honor the legacy of Dr. King across Montgomery County!

  • Community recreation centers around the County.

The Volunteer Center relies on volunteers, too! Check out current opportunities on MontgomeryServes.

Last Month...

The Volunteer Center's hosted its first Senior Volunteer Fair at Asbury Methodist Village in October. It was a rewarding day for many who wanted to learn more about how to be a volunteer. Many thanks to the nonprofits who participated and to Asbury for hosting.

Stay tuned for future volunteer fairs for people of all ages!
