Montgomery Wins ITF Grade I Doubles Title
Latvians Win Singles and Doubles

All credit is due to the sportsmanship and friendship of Robin Montgomery and Kamilla Bartone, who, knowing that they could face each other in a potential third round singles match, nonetheless decided to play doubles together last week.

Montgomery and her Latvian partner captured the girls' doubles at ITF Grade 1 Wayne K. Curry Prince George's County International Junior Tennis Championships after defeating Americans Savannah Broadus and Abigail Forbes, 6-3, 7-5 in the finals on Saturday.

While Montgomery lost in the third round to her doubles partner whom she faced across the net, there was some consolation in knowing that her doubles partner Bartone emerged as the singles champion after battling past Thailand's Mai Napatt Nirundorn, 6-2, 3-6, 6-0 to earn the championship.

"Players forge international friendships for life along learning how to play the game at the highest junior level," said Ray Benton, CEO of JTCC, which hosted the prestigious-pre-US Open tournament, presented by Laurel Springs for the eighth year.

The future of Latvian tennis is headed in the right direction with fellow Latvian Karlis Ozolins securing the boys' singles title after overcoming American Micah Braswell 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 in the finals.

Americans Cash Hanzlik and JTCC alumnus Benjamin Kittay competed for the boys' doubles championship against Great Britain's Arthur Ferry and his Hungarian partner Peter Makk. The European duo prevailed 4-6, 6-3, 10-8.
