Chamber News
TODAY - Tuesday, November 30th
GivingTuesday, often stylized as #GivingTuesday for the purposes of hashtag activism, is the Tuesday after Thanksgiving in the United States. It is touted as a "global generosity movement unleashing the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and the world".

GivingTuesday began as a simple idea in 2012; a day that encourages people to do good.

The Parkville Area Chamber of Commerce has been supporting local charities for the past 12 years. We are grateful that we are able to help, thanks to the support of our members and community.

Please remember your favorite charity today and give them a helping hand. Two of our local charities, the YMCA and Hillcrest Platte County, have specific needs listed below.

The Y needs your help to continue offering critical services. Together, we can provide food for those who are hungry, child care for parents who work, a safe space for kids after school, outreach to seniors who are feeling isolated, and life-saving water safety and swim lessons to eliminate drowning.

Order on Amazon to support Hillcrest Platte County.

Other local Chamber charities include Level Up Kids, Synergy, Parkville Women's Clinic, FOPAS, and The Farmer's House.

Charity Angel Tree

The tree is up - just a little different this year. If I'm not in the office you can still pick an ornament as I have them in the chamber office window! There will be a signup sheet to choose the ornament you want (unless it is raining).

Please stop by and choose an ornament. This time of year can be particularly stressful for many who rely on charity support. This is one way that you can help. If you are joining us for our Dec 14 lunch, you can bring your item with you. Other options are to drop it off in the Chamber office or take it directly to the charity.

Let's show them some LOVE!

City of Parkville Honored with Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for the Sixth Straight Year

The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) announced that the City of Parkville received the GFOA’s Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for the City’s 2021 annual budget. This is the sixth consecutive year the City has received the award for its annual budget. The Distinguished Budget Presentation Award is the highest form of recognition in governmental budgeting.

In order to receive the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award, the City had to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation. These guidelines are designed to assess how well an entity's budget serves as:
·         a policy document
·         a financial plan
·         an operations guide
·         a communications device
To receive the award, a budget document must rate proficient in all four categories, as well as rate proficient in the 14 mandatory criteria within those categories. The program underwent a major overhaul and upgrade in 2021 to respond to and be better aligned with current budget best practices and real-world challenges that local governments face in managing public money. This is the sixth year that the City achieved this award recognition. The first award was received in 2016.

City Administrator Joe Parente said that “Parkville’s budget document clearly articulates to the public how the City proposes to spend their tax dollars. It is a user-friendly document and promotes enhanced transparency in government. I am proud of the commitment of the governing body and City staff to meet the highest principles of governmental budgeting.”
