In the News
Missouri will commemorate its 200th birthday this summer with a number of events planned throughout July and August.

Aug. 10, 2021, will mark the 200th anniversary of Missouri’s entry as the 24th state to enter the United States. By celebrating the accomplishments and diversity of Missouri’s regions, event organizers hope to create a better understanding of Missouri and the ties that bind residents together.

The state’s Bicentennial Commission has a number of initiatives that can be found on its website (A few of the initiatives are listed below.) This includes pages dedicated to local events, including one for Platte County at this link.
"Missouri 2021 Presents: Legends and Lore, and Stories from the Show-Me State"
Missouri's 2021 Presents is a virtual program series that focuses on the programs and events happening in Missouri to commemorate the state’s 200th anniversary of statehood. Leading up to the Aug. 10, 2021 – anniversary day of statehood – Missouri 2021 invites the public to take part in live programming via Zoom on the first Tuesdays at 11:00. Each month will feature a different subject with guests from the more than 100 local, regional, and statewide projects and events.

The bicentennial committee is also looking for a great piece of folklore about Parkville that we can share. Legends & Lore is designed to promote cultural tourism and commemorate legends and folklore as part of our heritage. Click here for more information regarding the Legends & Lore Marker Grant Program.

A Bicentennial Inaugural Parade will take place in Jefferson City on Saturday, September 18, 2021, at 10 a.m. that showcases Missouri’s past, present, and future. If you would like to participate in the parade, contact Reid Hanson, (information listed below.)

The Governor and First Lady will also plan to visit historical sites and communities across Missouri as part of a Bicentennial Tour from July to August. If you know of historical places in our community that you would like to see the Governor visit, please send these to Reid Hanson.

CITY ADOPTS PARKVILLE 2040 MASTER PLAN

The Parkville Planning and Zoning Commission adopted the Parkville 2040 Master Plan on May 11, 2021. The plan serves as the official public policy and plan for the physical development and redevelopment of the community and provides guidance for future actions involving land development, sustainability, development design, provision of infrastructure, preservation of open spaces and natural resources, and preservation of community character over the next 20 years.

The Parkville 2040 Master Plan is a result of a 15-month collaboration between the City, Confluence – the consultants selected to lead the update to the Parkville Master Plan adopted in 2009 – and a steering committee made up of members of the Planning and Zoning Commission. The project involved seven steering committee meetings, individual meetings with over 20 key community stakeholders, and three public workshops. A custom project webpage was created and included several engagement exercises for participants including mapping activities, visual preference activities, general themes feedback, guiding principles surveys, and a postcard exercise.
