2020 Census Data Shows a More Diverse Kansas City Region
Register Today!

The Mid-America Regional Council (MARC) cordially invites you to attend one of four 45-minute virtual presentations on 2020 Census results. Frank Lenk, Director of Research Services at MARC, will highlight regional data and trends, as well as make suggestions on how data can be used to understand differences and disparities within and among communities in the Kansas City metro area. A question and answer session will follow the presentation.

Registration: There is no cost to attend these presentations. Email Jacob Worth at [email protected] or call (816) 701-8305.

  • Monday, March 21| 10 โ€“ 10:45 a.m.
  • Thursday, March 24| 3 โ€“ 3:45 p.m.
  • Monday, March 28 | 2 -2:45 p.m.
  • Thursday, March 31 | 1 โ€“ 1:45 p.m.

What will participants learn? The 2020 Census shows the Kansas City region is changing in some dramatic ways. Who should participate? Any member of a non-profit, city, county, special district, or other public organization/group in MARCโ€™s nine-county region that is seeking information on regional data and trends identified within 2020 Census results.

Program Support: Funding to support the 2020 Census presentations has been provided by the REACH Healthcare Foundation.

Dave Rittman honored with Hopkins
Distinguished Service Award

The Hopkins Distinguished Service Award was established to recognize extraordinary contributions to enhance the quality of life and general reputation of the community Parkville. Dave Rittman exemplifies these qualities.

"A native of New Jersey, Dave and his wife Cheryl settled in Parkville in 1989 and Dave has been active in our community ever since. He has served nearly 18 years as an Alderman for Ward 2. That's a lot of Tuesdays (Board of Alderman meetings).

Dave has also served on the Finance Committee (a lot of Monday meetings), Old Town Development Community Improvement District, a member of the Parkville Economic Development Council, and a proud member of Rotary.

Dave's service started early in his life as he flew helicopter missions in the Vietnam War from 1965 to 1968. He is a member of the Vietnam Helicopter Pilot's Association. One year Dave invited them to be in Parkville's 4th of July parade. This was the first time these pilots were recognized for their service, which meant a lot to Dave and the other Veterans."

Thank you Tina Welch for nominating Dave Rittman for this award. The Parkville Area Chamber of Commerce was honored to present this award at our annual Gala last Saturday. Thank you Dave for your many years of service.
BARTON NAMED NEXT PARKVILLE CITY ADMINISTRATOR

Alexa Barton has been named Parkvilleโ€™s next City Administrator. Bartonโ€™s appointment was unanimously approved by the Board of Aldermen at the February meeting. Barton will replace current City Administrator Joe Parente, who announced last year he will be retiring on March 1st. Barton will work alongside him, to provide an opportunity for transition, until taking the reins as City Administrator at his retirement.

Alexa Barton brings extensive experience in a broad array of local government areas including strategic planning, economic development, infrastructure improvements, and operations. Alexa received her bachelorโ€™s and masterโ€™s degree with honors from Park University. Her career includes time with the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City as well as a nineteen-year career in local government with Clay County, Missouri where she rose to Chief Administrator and Chief Budget Officer. Alexa has also served as the top administrator in Grain Valley and Belton, Missouri before accepting the post with Parkville.

In addition to her college achievements, Alexa is certified through Heartland Economic Development of the University of Northern Iowa, possesses a Certified Purchasing Manager designation from the Institute for Supply Management, and completed the Doniphan Leadership Institute certification through William Jewel College.

In anticipation of Joe Parenteโ€™s retirement, the Parkville Board of Aldermen engaged Strategic Government Resources of Keller, Texas to assist in the recruitment of candidates vying to become the next City Administrator. Thirty-three applications were received, and the process involved evaluation and research into the applicantsโ€™ background and experience in concert with Parkville aldermen. Three finalists were ultimately interviewed by the Board of Aldermen with Alexa Barton being selected for the position.

Mayor Nan Johnston said, โ€œI welcome Alexa to our wonderful community. The Board of Aldermen and I look forward to having her as our new City Administrator.โ€

Barton began her employment with the City of Parkville on February 14th.
Thank you to our February/March
business renewals!
