ALTERNATE SIDE PARKING

October 1st - April 15th

Alternate side parking is in effect from October 1st through April 15th, and it plays a vital role in keeping our streets safe and accessible during the winter months. By allowing for efficient snow and ice removal, we not only ensure smoother travel for everyone but also give our City Street Maintenance crews the opportunity to keep storm sewers free from leaf debris. When leaves accumulate, they can block these essential drainage systems, leading to street flooding and complications in clearing blocked lines.

8th St/Highway 33 Reconstruction

The segment between Domino's and Park Streets was finished at the end of August in time to accommodate the start of the school year. The segment from Park Street to West Street is scheduled for paving the week of September 23rd and should be opened up in early October. The segment from West Street to Oak Street is not far behind with all new curb and gutter installation completed this week. In the coming weeks, crews will be working on placing street light pole bases, installing the new traffic signals at Broadway, placing and topsoil in the terrace areas behind all the new curb. The end is near!!

The City, the DOT and A-1 Excavating sincerely appreciates everyone’s patience and indulgence throughout the project.

  • The Segment from Summit St to Broadway St is still Estimated to be completed mid November.

Highway 33 is still closed to thru traffic. The official detour will stay the same for Thru Traffic which is I90/94 (exit 106) to USH 12 (Lake Delton - Exit 92) to Highway 33.

Local Traffic is encouraged to use the posted local detour route from County Highway X to County Highway W to State Highway 113 to South Blvd. to State Highway 136. The estimated completion date for the balance of this project (Lincoln Avenue to Mulberry Street) is mid-November 2024. We Thank You for your renewed patience and indulgence as progress continues on Highway 33!

For questions or concerns please contact Tadd Owens, Project Manager, at 608-617-5460.

Please Remember that ALL LOCAL BUSINESSES are still Open!

Leaves and Yard Waste

Leaf pickup will begin October 28th and continue until November 27th. Leaves

must be placed un-bagged on the treebank and be free of debris such as rocks,

stumps, and other yard waste. During leaf pickup, please be certain that leaves

are accessible by keeping vehicles and trailers away from leaf piles designated for pick-up.

Leaf Collection occurs within designated geographical areas that correspond to

refuse collection routes. For example: collection will begin in Monday’s refuse

collection district and progress through that designated area regardless of how long

it takes. After completing collection in Monday’s area, crews will move into the

Tuesday district, then Wednesday’s district, followed by Thursday’s, and then

Friday’s refuse collection districts. Upon completion of Friday’s refuse district, crews

will begin the cycle again in Monday’s district. This rotation will continue until

November 27th.

This service is intended purely for leaf pick-up. Our leaf vacs are incapable of

picking up yard waste such as grass clippings, potted plants, pumpkins, and

garden materials. The City does not collect those materials. Those materials

must be dropped off at the City of Baraboo Compost Site located off at 407 Briar

Street behind the old Public Works Garage.

Curbside leaf collection only occurs during certain times in the Spring and Fall.

During non-pickup times, residents may dispose of leaves at the City of Baraboo

Compost Site. Leaves and yard waste must be free of trash and other foreign debris. If material is bagged, you must empty the contents on the appropriate pile and take the bags with you.

At No Time May Leaves, Grass Clippings, Brush, Or Other

Yard Waste Be Deposited On The Street Or Alley.

Not Only Does It Impact Ground And Surface Water Quality,

But It Is Also Prohibited By Ordinance 8.15

2024 CURBSIDE BRUSH COLLECTION

2024 monthly Brush Collection: We start on Monday’s garbage route and complete the entire route before moving to Tuesday's route. The time to move from one garbage route to the next varies depending how much brush is out. It could take as little as part of a day or it could take several days.

All brush must be placed for pickup by 7:00 a.m. the Monday of the scheduled collection week to be guaranteed collection. 2024 Brush Collection weeks are September 23rd, and October 21st.

Remember, the City will NOT collect brush that was placed by a contractor. Contractors are responsible for the disposal of tree waste that they generate on their own terms, and may not dispose of customer materials at the City of Baraboo Brush Drop-off Site.

Monthly brush pickup is intended for typical residential yard cleanup and is not intended as a lot clearing or tree removal service. The City cannot collect lumber, root balls, stumps, or material in excess of 6” in diameter. Residents placing brush for collection must neatly stack cut ends facing the same direction, keep brush pile free of non-brush materials, and keep a minimum of 5’ away from trees, signs, hydrants, utility poles, vehicles, and buildings.
