City celebrates milestones in addressing homelessness

Last week City Council celebrated two important milestones in its efforts to address homelessness in Thousand Oaks.

On Wednesday, September 28th, the City of Thousand Oaks with Shangri-La Industries and Step Up broke ground on the former Quality Inn & Suites to deliver 77 units of permanent supportive housing for the City's chronically homeless residents. See more here

City Council also authorized staff to move forward with issuing a request for proposals for a developer/operator to help the City establish an emergency shelter/navigation center for residents experiencing homelessness at an underutilized city-owned property located at 1205 Lawrence Drive. This referral-only facility will help to address the immediate needs of residents and connect them with critical resources to help them prepare to return to traditional housing or prepare them to transition to permanent supportive housing.

Ultimately, these shorter and longer-term housing resources will serve to: provide our unhoused residents with housing options based on their unique circumstances; redirect public dollars currently spent on costly response and clean-up costs towards

constructive investment in a proven strategic approach with positive outcomes; and provide our local police with the means to preserve our high quality of life in Thousand Oaks.

Celebrating our local manufacturers

National Manufacturing Day is celebrated on the first Friday of each October, but the contributions local manufacturers make to our economy and our quality of life are enjoyed every day. We would like to take a moment to express our gratitude to the manufacturing businesses that call Thousand Oaks home. From biotech to breweries, and from high tech and commercial printing to pastries, thank you to all our manufacturers!
