December 2021: Healthy & Happy Holidays
The holidays can be a time of joy, happiness, and gratitude as family and friends gather to celebrate. They can also be stressful with having to buy gifts, preparing meals, and attending gatherings. With this being said, you can easily become overwhelmed during the holidays. This holiday season we challenge you to take care of yourself so that you can be happy and healthy as we move into the 2022 new year! We hope you enjoy this holiday season with your family and friends!
Eat Well:
Are you looking for healthy dishes to cook for an upcoming holiday gathering? This month we are focusing our Eat Well section on sharing a surplus of healthy recipes (picked out by a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist!)

Live Well:
The holidays are busy, but don’t forget to focus on YOU this season, too! Here are some holiday tips to keep you healthy & happy:

  • Stay Active to Decrease Stress – prioritize exercise each day as it will give you an energy boost, help you de-stress, and help you sleep better. Thirty minutes a day can be broken up throughout the day

  • Focus on Family and Friends– whether it be virtual or in-person, practice laughter as medicine and have fun with family and friends

  • Keep Clean – don’t forget to wash your hands often as germs can pass easily

  • Manage Your Spend – decrease the financial stress that comes with the holidays by sticking to a budget

  • Take Time for Reflection - take time to think about what you are grateful for and what you’d like to achieve in the new year. Slowing down to reflect will allow you to be present and focus on yourself

Resources to Thrive:

Be Well:
Generosity makes you and those around you happier and healthier. Giving can also help you live longer due to the health benefits associated with being generous. These health benefits can include lower blood pressure, lower stress levels, greater satisfaction, and less depression. This month we encourage you to give back – to benefit you and the longevity of others.

Giving Ideas for December:

  • Volunteer at a local soup kitchen or food pantry
  • Donate household items to a local shelter
  • Raise money for a charity
  • Cook a meal for an elderly neighbor
