Eat Well
Barbeque Food Safety

1.   Prevent cross-contamination
Use separate plates and utensils for uncooked meats and cooked meats as well as fruits and vegetables. Avoid putting the cooked meat back on the plate that you had the raw meat on!

2.   Cooking to internal temperatures to prevent foodborne illness
  • Steaks 145F
  • Ground Meat 160F
  • Chicken & Turkey 165F

3.   Wash your fruits and vegetables!
It is important to wash everything, even fruits with skin you don’t eat from a cantaloupe or watermelon. When you cut through the fruit the contaminants on the skin will be transferred through the inside of the fruit.

Summer Skintervention

Nutrients like vitamin C and E can help repair damaged skin and fight UV damage. Vitamin C is especially important for repairing damaged areas and rebuilding collagen – plus a youthful bonus!

Increase your consumption of these:
  • Citrus fruits: Lemon, limes, orange, kiwi, grapefruit
  • Berries
  • Bell Peppers
  • Broccoli
  • Tomatoes
  • Carrots
  • Avocados
  • Proteins: Salmon, grass-fed beef, eggs, oysters, liver
Live Well

Be Well
Actionable initiative - Visit your local farmer’s market this month! Here are a few important reasons why:
  1. Produce at farmer’s markets are picked closer to their ripeness which allows more nutrients to develop naturally
  2. The longer the “commute” from the picked produce to your kitchen, the less nutrients it will contain as respiration occurs
  3. Shopping locally is more sustainable for our environment
  4. It is great to support local businesses!
