Food Waste Reduction Challenge in Durham Region
As a part of the Food Policy for Canada, Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada launched the Food Waste Reduction Challenge, in November 2020. Graze and Gather, a virtual farmers’ market based in the Kendal area of Durham Region, proposed structuring their online market as a circular wholesale system, and received a grant of $100,000! Farmer Dave Kranenburg is combining his new-found farming knowledge with his tech know-how to help his fellow farmers feed more Canadians and reduce food waste.

Ontario Vehicle Innovation Network (OVIN) Research and Development Partnership Funds now open
OVIN programs support (SMEs) to develop, test and validate innovative technologies, and connect them with partners to advance the commercialization of products and solutions. Each fund focuses on different technologies: Electric Vehicle, Connected and Autonomous and Smart Mobility, and WinterTech Development.

Local business Crave Doughnuts expands from Whitby to second location in Oshawa
Crave Doughnuts, the popular specially made doughnuts—cut, rolled, filled and dipped by hand—are now available at their new storefront in Oshawa at 1115 Wentworth Street West. Owners, Morais and Black, launched Crave back in March 2018 by renting space at Baking at its Best in Ajax. They then began selling the treats from Wednesday through Sunday each week, or until the 2,000 doughnuts sell out.
