Project Arrow debuts at the Consumer Electronics Show

Project Arrow, the first all-Canadian, zero-emission concept vehicle—designed in Ontario and built at Ontario Tech University’s ACE Climatic Wind Tunnel—was unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2023.

“The unveiling of Project Arrow, the first all-Canadian concept vehicle, is a historic milestone that showcases the best of Ontario’s automotive and technology sectors,” said Vic Fedeli, Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade.

With funding and support from the Ontario government through the Ontario Vehicle Innovation Network, the Automotive Parts Manufacturers’ Association (APMA) led the development of Project Arrow at the ACE Climatic Wind Tunnel at Ontario Tech University in Oshawa. Over the course of the project, 58 Canadian industry partners came together to design and build a revolutionary prototype vehicle.

Why Ontario Tech for Project Arrow?

Ontario Tech attracts the brightest research and academic minds in areas including additive manufacturing, automotive engineering, aerodynamics, electrification, energy storage, battery chemistry and cybersecurity. The university was chosen as the build partner due to its global reputation for excellence in energy, automotive, smart mobility and engineering research expertise.

The university was also selected for its exemplary track record with industry partners and its ACE core research and testing facility that features world-class automotive prototype build capacity.

“Ontario Tech’s role in this ambitious undertaking is a trail-blazing example of our exceptional competencies and faculty and student talent in world-class research and engineering projects. We know how to get things done collaboratively at Ontario Tech. Our DNA contains the ideal ecosystem to drive innovation and commercialization forward that will better our planet.”

Dr. Steven Murphy, President and Vice-Chancellor, Ontario Tech University

A look at Durham's birdwatching, bird-inspired coffee, best-selling birding author and best bookshop named after a bird.

A good book, good coffee and the sound of a birdsong. Is there anything better? Durham Region has long been a magnet for birdwatchers—the Lake Ontario shoreline has been a stopover for the spring and fall migration for many different species flying south and north again.

Local Oshawa author, Steve Burrows, knows this well. In his series of “Birder Murder Mystery” novels, his Detective, Domenic Jejeune, is an avid birder. In Burrows’ ‘A Siege of Bitterns,’ his first in the now seven-book series, Detective Jejeune mentions Thickson Point in Whitby as a keen observation point.
