Ontario Power Generation (OPG) has purchased former General Motors office building


Regional Chair and Chief Executive Officer John Henry released a statement: “Durham Region is an exciting place to be—filled with talented, smart, and ambitious people who enjoy a great quality of life. A place where manufacturing drives economic development, while clean energy powers our future.


This investment by OPG helps to solidify Durham Region’s position as the Clean Energy Capital of Canada and will enable jobs and growth of the Durham economy. With a new headquarters secured at this location, we look forward to supporting OPG in the development of an innovation centre of excellence in Clarington.”

Durham to host Top7 Intelligent Communities Conference on June 20


The Region of Durham recently announced that it will be hosting this year’s Top7 Intelligent Communities Forum (ICF) Conference in June. The event will take place in-person and will announce which communities have placed in the top seven. The ICF’s top seven list recognizes communities from across the globe who exemplify best practices in broadband deployment, workforce development, innovation, digital inclusion, and advocacy.


For the third year in a row, Durham Region has been named a Smart21 community and is in the running to be globally recognized as a Top7 Intelligent Community for 2023. More details about the event and Durham’s Intelligent Communities initiatives are coming.
