“Harvest of Love” Food Drive
Students are asked to drop off donations of non-perishable goods in the Trianon lobby now through Thursday, Nov. 17. This year’s food drive is being overseen by Ms. Vincent and the 2nd-grade class!

Student Council Social
Tonight’s “Party with Music” Middle School social event begins at 5:30 p.m. in the Maytag Dining Hall. Pick-up will take place at 8:30 p.m. on the one-way gravel road that runs just behind Maytag. Parents should drive through the Upper School parking lot and past the Tutt Field House in order to access this service road. During “Party with Music,” MS Student Council will be selling pizza, drinks, and sweet treats, so please send students with a little cash. As a reminder, students are unable to bring guests to divisional social events without receiving prior permission from me.

CSS Open House
This Sunday, Nov. 13, the Office of Admissions & Financial Aid will be hosting its annual Fall Open House from 1-4 p.m. beginning in the Trianon. Please tell any friends or members of the community who you believe might be interested in learning more about CSS’s unique programs and culture.
Nov. 17
Fifth and Eighth Grade “Shadow Up” Days
On Thursday, Nov. 17, rising 6th and 9th-grade students currently in grades five and eight will spend a portion of their afternoon with classmates and teachers representing the new academic divisions they will be joining next fall. Shadowing an Ambassador from the Middle or Upper School division provides transitioning students with an experiential point of reference as they prepare for these important next steps in their academic journeys.
Nov. 18
STEAM Day & Kodiak Fun Run
On Friday, Nov. 18, students in grades three through eight will spend the day on their feet! From 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., these students and their teachers will interact with Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math experiences led by Cool Science, CaveSim, and the Pikes Peak Library District. STEAM Day parent volunteers are needed! If able to participate, please sign up here.
At 2:30 p.m., all Middle and Lower School students will be released from class to participate in the Parents Association’s annual Fun Run. This on-campus (run or walk at your own pace) event will conclude by 3:15 p.m., and both afternoon carline and buses will commence on schedule. We hope you will join other CSS students and faculty in cheering all participants on from the sidelines near the Quad.
Nov. 21–25
Thanksgiving Break
There will be no school from Nov. 21–25, 2022, due to Thanksgiving break. This is a great time to take stock and prepare for the end of the semester by resting up and blowing off steam. I encourage everyone to find a good book and to roar through at least one!
Dec. 6 & 8
Middle School Band and Choir Concerts
CSS’s winter concert season kicks off on Tuesday, Dec. 6, with a Middle & Upper School Band Concert from 6–7:30 p.m. in the Louisa Performing Arts Center. This is followed by our annual Middle School Choir Concert & Upper School Chamber Choir Concert on Thursday, Dec. 8, from 6–7 p.m. in the same location. All 6th-grade students are expected to perform in both concerts. If you've not received them already, more details will be shared by Mr. Moorhead and Ms. Michelutti soon. In the meantime, parents can reserve their family’s tickets for each show online at bit.ly/winter-22-concerts. Due to the size of the band, limited seating has been made available per family for the MS/US Band Concert, and advance reservations are required.
Dec. 13–16
Middle School Finals
The Middle School’s final period and semester final exams will take place between Wednesday, Dec. 13, and Friday, Dec. 16. Sixth graders can expect final periods with unit projects and tests, while 7th and 8th graders can anticipate cumulative semester exams. The entire week will run on a modified schedule, with Monday and Tuesday of that same week serving as review days for students to meet with all of their classes.

MS Theatre Production: "The Complete History of Theatre (Abridged)"
This fall’s Middle School theater production will consist of a daytime matinee for all MS students and their families on Friday, Dec. 16, beginning at 1:30 p.m. in the Louisa Performing Arts Center. Doors will open to parents at 1:15 p.m. There will be a reception in the foyer following the play, and students will be dismissed for winter break at that time. Buses will run at 3:15 p.m. and Homework Heaven will not be offered on that day. Stay tuned for ticket information from the Office of Communications after the Thanksgiving break.

Tuesday Assemblies
Middle School students meet every Tuesday after lunch for a weekly assembly. Recently, we’ve been focusing on messages of kindness and empathy, playing games led by the MS Student Council, and awarding prizes for composting and recycling at lunch. Next week, we will focus on the importance of positive digital citizenship and remind students that what they create and transmit online has the potential to remain there for a very long time.
