Summer is a great time of year, with many outdoor activities and no homework! It can also be stressful for people who thrive on predictable routines. In our Afterschool Activities and Independent Leisure Skills Tool Kit we offer ideas on how to plan activities and create schedules. These can help with transitioning through lazy summer days, and can offer ways to keep a routine.

Summer is also a common time for families to take a trip while familiar routines are often thrown out the window!  If you're traveling, check out more tips in the Milestones Travel Tool Kit. There are suggestions for airplane travel, as well as ways to keep your family busy in the car.

Have a wonderful summer!

"Autism spectrum disorder is a shared human experience. This presents a great opportunity for growth for all people, schools, the community,
and society."

- Barry Prizant, PhD, CCC-SLP, Milestones Conference Keynote

The Milestones 13th Annual Autism Spectrum Disorder Conference was a huge success with 900 attendees, more than 40 exhibitors, and more than 90 workshops at the Cleveland I-X Center on June 18 and 19.

An energetic and collaborative spirit filled the Conference as attendees were revitalized by a variety of influences. Family members, educators, therapists, medical professionals, and self-advocates (individuals with autism) were inspired and educated in a range of areas to help members of the autism community reach their potential and the greatest level of independence. A large number of new attendees found resources, guidance, and practical strategies to support their family members and clients.

The keynotes were truly inspiring. On the first day, renowned speech therapist and autism consultant Barry Prizant, PhD, CCC-SLP gave suggestions for schools and professionals to better serve families. On the second day, Sondra Williams spoke predominantly about communication and inclusivity as people with autism communicate in many ways and every person is different.
