May 2014

Financial Tip of the Month: Determine your number!  What's your savings target?  While we know we need to save, most of us don't have a target.  If we can do some calculations to determine what your "savings number" should be, it's far easier to achieve, and set targets to do that.  Talk to your advisor and set up some automatic savings each month to help you achieve those goals.

Protecting Your Information:
At Assante, we take your privacy seriously.  With the breach that was experienced in the CRA Netfile site and the challenge with heartbleed, a thorough check has been done on all Assante's websites, and we are not exposed to this issue.
However, we strongly encourage you to follow careful protocol to help protect your information.  Here's an article on what you can do to ensure you're protected in the financial services industry.
Here is a link to, How Assante protects your information.  I am  always happy to discuss these issues to help you understand what's in place.

Markets continued in their positive momentum.  Some are questioning the momentum here, as some managers are starting to feel things are getting expensive.  This may be true, but as there is lots of money still on the sidelines, the markets always tend to shift more than expected.

For some good commentaries that go beyond the headlines, read on.

>Rate Will Likely Rise

>Active vs. Passive

Trustee Fees:  Please note that Trustee fees for RRSP, LRSP, RRIF, LIF will be charged in early June.

Quote of the Month:

(After the busyness of tax season, and spending much of my past weekends doing all the "family" taxes, this made me smile.)

There is no pleasure in having nothing to do.  The pleasure is in having lots to do, but not doing it!

Andrew Jackson.
