Update from NACE North East VP

Jeff Linkous, P.E., P.S.

One of President McCall’s first acts as President was to create a special committee to examine our annual conference. As the chair of this committee, I am working with members across the country performing a deep dive to find out what works, what doesn’t and what can be improved for you and your staff’s conference experience.

Some early measures originating from this group is a concerted effort to have conference technical session information out months before we have in the past. With a goal of around the same time registration opens, this can make gaining approvals easier for those who require it. We will also be examining everything from food/beverage, conference-wide events and some new “al-a-carte” options for guests to enjoy the conference more economically. I look forward to reporting out our recommendations in the coming months.

Summer has arrived in Ohio, bringing with it a heat wave across the Midwest. Temperatures are expected to soar into the 90s over the next week. Thankfully, favorable weather in April and May allowed farmers to plant their crops, which are now thriving. Construction projects are also progressing smoothly; repairs to culverts, roadways, and bridges have been largely uninterrupted by rain.

2025 Call for Presentations Now Open!

NACE invites county engineers, association partners, and Corporate Members to submit presentation proposals to the NACE Technical Program Committees for consideration for the 2025 Annual Conference in Schaumburg, IL.

NACE technical sessions provide Professional Development Hours (PDH) for attendees so all proposals should provide educational content instead of a direct sales pitch. All proposals will be sent to the appropriate committee chair after the deadline- August 30th! Preference is given to NACE members. Speakers will receive a $100 discount on conference registration. Speakers are responsible for their own travel and accommodations.

Sponsoring organizations can be guaranteed a 1-hour slot by sponsoring one of the technical tracks. Sponsorship and Exhibitor information for 2025 will be launched in early September.

To submit a presentation for consideration, please complete the Call for Presentations Form

The Annual Conference for 2025 will be held at the Schaumburg Convention Center and the adjoining Renaissance Hotel.

Managing capital projects presents significant complexities, regardless of your CIP budget. Local and regional government agencies encounter distinct challenges, primarily due to constrained resources. Relying on manual, offline processes, such as Excel Spreadsheets, complicates information retrieval and leads to miscommunication among project stakeholders.

This webinar, with Merrick Madden from Aurigo Software Technolgies, Inc., will delve into innovative strategies for leveraging technology to streamline these processes and optimize project management, especially with limited resources.

National Bridge Preservation Conference

September 9 - 13, 2024

The Bridge Preservation Partnerships are regional forums of bridge professionals— from state agencies, contractors, suppliers, consultants, academia, plus local and federal government agencies—all working together to take advantage of the synergy to be gained from sharing information and identifying common issues for further investigation.

This year’s National conference will include all four regional partnerships in one meeting. There will be three concurrent tracks with over 60 technical presentations, outdoor demonstrations of bridge preservation treatments and technology, and countless opportunities to network with bridge preservation practitioners from around the country.
