Pacific Education Institute is seeking FieldSTEM Coordinators for Central Washington and East Sound North Regions. These positions are responsible for creating and maintaining partnerships with school districts,educational leaders, nonformal educators, and local agricultural, natural resource, and environmental science professionals to facilitate planning and implementation of PEI programs. PEI is a leader in promoting scientific literacy and civic engagement by empowering people to make balanced, well-

informed decisions for just and sustainable communities. PEI supports educators by specializing in professional learning and FieldSTEM implementation. It is a process that takes students outdoors to integrate language and math skills with an understanding of complex social (cultural, economic, civic) and natural systems to: answer authentic questions through scientific inquiry, design real solutions through engineering, and resolve issues through collaborative decision making.

The program helps farmers nationwide improve farm viability, access, transfer, or permanently protect farmland or adopt regenerative agricultural practices. Sweet Potato Cultivation This online education event is part of a Western SARE grant sponsoring sweetpotato trials and education in conjunction with the WSU Regional Small Farms program.

SoilCon Field Day 2023 will be held from 12:00 - 4:00 pm on July 27th, 2023 at Mount Vernon Northwestern Washington Research and Extension Center.


Join for: 

  • A tour of the first WaSHI Long-Term Agroecological Research Experiment site, with insight from NWREC researchers on the importance of addressing long-term considerations in soil health. 
  • Tutorials in soil sampling, the range of soil health metrics, and a visualization with a rainfall simulator.  
  • Demonstrations on biochar and no-till drills.  
  • Discussions on the significance of cover cropping and compost usage on soil health, as well as the current status of the Washington Soil Health Initiative.
