We Really Are In This Together
As Lydia Place looks forward to it’s 5th anniversary of partnership with Whatcom Educational Credit Union (WECU), it comes to no surprise their new slogan “We are in this together,” is more than a tagline-it’s a commitment to our community. Sharing Lydia Place’s vision of a compassionate community where everyone has a home and the opportunity to thrive, WECU generously provided Lydia Place with a single-family home, the Chestnut House, for families experiencing homelessness in Whatcom County. A majority of the clients Lydia Place serves are families who have high barriers to housing. The Chestnut House provides a flexible, much needed housing opportunity for these families to remain intact while receiving intensive case management services from Lydia Place's housing case managers.
WECU’s Community Impact Program Manager, Reid Frederick, tries to put himself in their shoes, “To face the challenges of life without the refuge of a home is something most of us will gratefully never know. For those that do, in partnership with Lydia Place, WECU is thrilled to contribute to a compassionate support system.”
The Chestnut House continues to be a valuable resource by providing a safe place for families with children to stay until a more permanent housing placement can be made. We, at Lydia Place are so grateful to have community partners like WECU who continue to make a meaningful difference in the lives of its members, as well as in the greater community.
