Pastor's Post

Our Cultural Celebration Event Was Fun and Informative!

We want to thank everyone who participated in our Cultural Celebration on Saturday, August 1, 2026. We learned SO much. We had the following cultures/presenters listed: (in order of table set up)

1.      Ireland - Carol Dugger, Rich and Barbara Rinehart, and Elaine Passman

2.      Wales - Yvonne Smith

3.      Louisiana - (We KNOW Louisiana is in the US; however, if you know Louisiana at all, you KNOW it has unique cultures, languages, and food throughout the various parishes.) David and Zel Heaney

4.      Korea - David Edwards (whose wife is from Korea)

5.      Germany - Gabriele Singleton

6.      The British Virgin Islands (Tortola) - Phyllis Knox

7.      Kenya - Thomas, Joseph, & Annie Luvai, and Benta Abudeka

8.      We also have a photo of Eva Nyan, from Ghana (she was unable to participate on Sat.; but dressed in her native garment, on Sunday, August 2).

Each culture had a table (or shared a table). The tables contained items from the country (or state) represented. The table also had food representing the culture. Attendees made their plates, as the representatives gave us information about the food chosen. As we ate, representatives shared interesting information about a specific culture. When the person(s) completed the presentation, the group went to the next table to get a “taste” of a different culture.

We used small plates and “sampled” the food from each culture. However, by the time the cultural celebration ended, we were all so “STUFFED” we could hardly move! Willie Singleton (smiling like a cheshire cat), said, “Hey, I am treating everyone to a meal at IHOP!” We declined in unison!! This tickled him to no end!

We want as many people as possible to help us pursue and embrace the cultures among us. We know we did not scratch the surface having with us each of the number of cultures there are in the Killeen/Ft. Hood, and surrounding areas. Therefore, we hope to do this again. We hope to celebrate (again) the same cultures represented on Saturday, along with as many NEW cultures as we can fit into the Gary and John Helen Purser Fellowship Hall!
