HOW TO STAY COMPLIANT WITH THE ADA
Date: October 17, 2016 from 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM CDT
Topic:  MN businesses that serve customers have been the target of lawsuits in the past few years alleging violations of the American with Disability Acts. The best way to avoid these lawsuits is to make sure your business is ADA compliant. This webinar will focus on the most common accessibility issues that have been alleged in these lawsuits and the accessibility requirements to make sure your business is meeting your legal requirements and is accessible to ALL customers. If you are a retail store, grocery store, hotel, resort, restaurant, movie theater, clinic any one that directly serves customers - this should be very helpful to you.
Speakers: David Fenley and Margot Imdieke of the MN State Council of Disability

Public Access Channel. The City of Rushford has maintained a public-access channel since the mid-1990s. Over the years, R-P School's Information Technology Director, Corey Mattson, has handled the technical aspects for the channel and provided space for the channel's equipment, and the Chamber of Commerce has assisted in developing content for the channel. The Chamber Coordinator, Jen Hengel, and Mattson have been working on an upgrade to the channel's equipment to allow the channel to have more and better audio during the informational slides and recorded videos; more recorded videos of  athletic events, music and theater performances, community events and parades, and public meetings of the school board and city council; video programming   scheduled via a web-based software program; and multiple  users able to upload video or develop slides and programs.   Fundraising for the new equipment is now underway! Once the funding is secured and the equipment purchased, the next steps are to (1) r eceive training and obtain experience with the new equipment's capabilities; (2) develop specific volunteer opportunities for high school students and others in the community; (3) create a plan for student involvement, education, and leadership with the channel, under the supervision of Mattson and with assistance from Hengel; and (4) develop and maintain a schedule of recorded video and news/event slides. Contact the Chamber if you would like more information about the channel's planned improvements.

Help for Decorah Area
Northeast Iowa experienced widespread flooding on August 24. According to the Decorah Area Chamber of Commerce (DACC), there was minimal damage to businesses, but residents were heavily impacted, in particular in the Freeport and Spillville communities. The DACC, in partnership with Northeast Iowa Community Action, has developed a Flood Relief Program to raise money for flood victims in Winneshiek, Fayette, Clayton, and Howard counties. Donations can be made out to "NEICA FLOOD FUND" and mailed to Decorah Area Chamber of Commerce (DACC), 507 W. Water St., Decorah, Iowa 52101. Donations to this flood-relief effort are tax deductible.
Trail Closure between Peterson & Rushford
The Root River Trail between Peterson and Rushford will be closed October 3 through November 11 for re-paving. Signs have been posted on the trail regarding the closing, but please help spread the word. This project is much needed as the current surface is original to the trail's founding. Thanks to the MN DNR for investing in the trail's future.
