- Pastor's Posting -

Happy Father’s Day. The concept of “fathering” is near and dear to God’s own heart; after all God is a FATHER, WITH A SON. In fact, God has MANY sons and daughters.

Our church has lost several wonderful fathers, since last Father’s Day. In fact, I had no idea we have lost so many men from our congregation. We are thankful for the many ways they served when they were with us. Our hearts break, for the void that is left; but we rejoice that we had these men in our lives.

Please understand, I know families have very differing make-ups. Some fathers are single fathers. Some families have no father in the home at all. In some cases, grandparents are rearing the children. We want to honor families, no matter what they look like. However, on this Father’s Day, I want to share a portion of an article I read online, from Urban Light Ministries. The article lists Ten Characteristics of a Godly Father. For the sake of time and space, I will share only the first five characteristics with you. Feel free to look up the article to see all ten of the characteristics. Here they are the first five:

Characteristics of a Godly Father

  1. A godly father knows God – It should be without stating, but many men want their children to have a relationship with God but do not have that relationship themselves. Children model what they see. So godly fatherhood begins within the heart of a man.
  2. A godly father loves and honors his wife – it has been said that the best gift a father can give his children is to love their mother. Even if a man is divorced or single, he can still model respectful behavior towards his child’s mother. Children imitate what they see.
  3. A godly father accepts responsibility for his children’s spiritual training – While providing financially for a family is an important responsibility for fathers (1 Timothy 5:8) it is not their only responsibility. A father must encourage Christian character in his children by his example as well as his words of instruction and the expectations of behavior he sets forth for and enforces with his children.
  4. A godly father is continually aware of his influence – fathers may not realize it but everything they do is influencing their children. Words alone are not enough.
  5. A godly father models selfless service – much of Jesus’ earthly life was given to serving others. As followers of Jesus, we are to imitate that service (Matthew 20:28). Godly fathers figure out ways to involve their children in acts of service.

So, fathering is GOD’S idea. JESUS HAS THE BEST DAD EVER!! WE ARE BLESSED THAT HIS DAD, IS OUR FATHER TOO!!

HAPPY FATHER’S DAY!!!

The last GriefShare Session ended May 28th. Information about the start of the next session will be forthcoming. Those interested in joining may contact Trudy Horridge (512) 293-5453 for more information.

- Annual Conference 2025 -

Well, the inaugural Annual Conference for the Horizon Texas Conference, has come and gone! The HTCUMC, Annual Conference of 2025, is surely history making news! It was good to fellowship together as ONE large annual conference. It was also good to see familiar people and to meet new ones.

Both the clergy session and the laity session were very informative. In the clergy session, the clergy floor approved of Provisional Deacons, Provisional Elders, Deacons and Elders for ordination (both were ordained on Monday, June 9th). Opening worship guest speaker was Bishop Delores Williamston, from the Louisiana Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church. Bishop Williamston served as the assistant to Bishop Seanz, when he served as Bishop of the Kansas-Nebraska Annual Conference. Guest speaker for Monday's sessions was Dr. Tod Bolsinger. Monday nights ordination was a heartfelt service preached by Bishop Saenz. Business sessions on Monday and Tuesday, were fruitful. Important votes were taken (more information to come). The first Annual Conference of the HTCUMC was adjourned by Bishop Saenz, on Tuesday, June 10th at 5:00pm, following closing worship and the setting of appointments for the conference year 2025-2026. The date for the Lay Leader's report for the Annual Conference for the Horizon Texas Conference of the United Methodist Church, 2025, will be forthcoming.

- Thank You! -

A big thank you to Beth Robinson and Bret Batdorff for filling in and leading our worship this past Sunday as our Pastor was away for Annual Conference. We have heard many positive remarks about the services from the congregation. We are so blessed and thankful.

- Pentacost Sunday -

Since our Pastor was away at Annual Conference for Pentacost Sunday, our guests preferred not to preach this high Holy Day event in our church. We will be observing Pentacost this coming Sunday, June 15th. Those who are so inclined, are invited to wear red.

- Custodian Needed! -

The church is in need of a part-time custodial worker to replace Maria Moreno. If you are interested, or know someone who may be interested, please call the church office. The job entails cleaning areas in the church and in the Child Development Center.
