Pastor's Post

The United Methodist Women (now United Women in Faith), have a rich history. Their 150 year legacy began with a few bold women determined to change the world for the better. The United Methodist Women were founded in 1869, as the Woman's Foreign Missionary Society (WFMS) by women to support women in India, specifically addressing lack of healthcare and education.

In 1869, the organization sent its first missionaries, educator, Isabella Thoburn, and doctor, Clara Swain, to India. Through the years the group was known by many names. However, in 1973, the Women’s Society for Christian Service, became the United Methodist Women. The General Conference of 1973 made the UMW an autonomous organization.

The purpose of the organization is to connect and nurture women, children, and youth, through Christian spiritual formation, leadership development, creative fellowship, and education so that they can inspire, influence, and impact communities, locally and globally.

The group also has a longstanding focus on maternal health, education, social, racial and climate justice. Despite being an autonomous body, the organization is affiliated with and yet separate from, the United Methodist Church.

In 2022, the group was renamed to reflect its contemporary focus and to welcome a broader range of women.

THE UNITED WOMEN IN FAITH BELIEVE THAT LOVE IN ACTION CAN CHANGE THE WORLD!

- Thank You! -

If you have come to the church office recently, you may have noticed we have new office furniture! The former furniture served us well, but lived out its time and "looked the part." The new furniture is similar, but looks "oh, so much nicer!" Thank you anonymous donor. We are ever amazed by the ways God meets our needs, here, at First United Methodist Church, Killeen.
