- Pastor's Posting -

We are in a BUSY season right now! We have a LOT going on; so please give attention to the newsletters, communication letters, Noteworthy News in the church bulletins, and to verbal announcements. Several of the events/activities were in our last newsletter; but they bear repeating; because we want to keep everyone informed.

Let’s give a “shout-out” to Mike Tuggle, who supports the church in countless ways. He is the Business Director of our church; and is helpful whenever and wherever he is needed. “Tug” sees what others may not see and makes the necessary calls to get whatever the problem is, solved. Thanks goes out to both the Tuggles, providing transportation for our members who have appointments, and attending surgeries when necessary. Let us be in prayer for Tug, as he is experiencing some health issues and is facing surgery in the next few weeks. We pray this man with such a kind and caring “heart” will also have a healthy heart. Mike Tuggle is well-deserving of our deep gratitude for his ministries in our midst.

We want to give many kudos go to our GriefShare Leaders. Trudy Horridge, is the group’s primary facilitator. Trudy leads with compassion and facilitates the conversations necessary to help members feel included, safe, and supported. Members share as much or as little as meets their needs. Karen Hall is a precious servant of God, who helps in all the ways she can. Members of GriefShare are not necessarily members of our church. Most of the members are from the community and belong to various denominations. We are thankful to provide this worthwhile service to the community.

Last, but certainly not least, I would like to highlight ALL of our COMMITTEE CHAIRPERSONS/ORGANIZATION PRESIDENTS, AND CHURCH RELATED GROUP LEADERS. They are listed, for your information following this post. Chairing church committees take a lot of commitment and effort, WE APPRECIATE YOU!

Regarding CONFIRMATION: I MUST have some idea of how many students will be participating in our CONFIRMATION CLASSES 2025, as plans are well underway. I have planned many fun things to do. Participants will learn things they did not know before coming. Confirmation is for students between the ages of 11-13 AND THEIR PARENTS! Please be sure to sign your child up (SIGN UP ON SUNDAY, MARCH 23, 2025, in the Welcome Center), for this important “milestone event” in the lives of United Methodist students. YOU WILL BE SO GLAD YOU DID.

We had our SECOND Church Reset Planning Meeting on Saturday, March 15, 2025. The meeting was very helpful. The group made some decisions that we think will be beneficial to everyone. The 10:00 service time we observe now was meant to be TEMPORARY. I met with a group of members from every age group represented in the church. The overwhelming majority of the members in each group prefers to go back to the 11:00 hour, for our second service worship time. This means the early service will GO BACK TO 8:00 am. Sunday school will be from 9:30-10:30. The NEW TIMES WILL BE EFFECTIVE JUNE 1, 2025.

Those in attendance at the second, reset meeting will be making recommendations to present to the Church Council on March 30, 2025 at 11:00 (directly after our ONE WORSHIP SERVICE). The UMM will provide the meal on that day (Thank you UMM)! This is Not an EXECUTIVE COUNCIL MEETING. Therefore, EVERY MEMBER OF THE CHURCH IS WELCOME TO COME TO THE COUNCIL MEETING. Those who are NOT MEMBERS are welcome to attend the Church Council. NON-MEMBERS AND PAID STAFF, HAVE VOICE, BUT NO VOTE. PLEASE PLAN TO ATTEND.

Blessings,

- FUMC Financial Highlights -

Income

  • Church donations in 2024 were down from 2023 by $107,358.91, a -14.05% change.
  • CDC Tuition and Fees were down $58,027.96, a -9.08% change
  • On a positive note, enrollment and tuition income is up recently and a planned increase in CDC Tuition and Fees in August 2025 should provide additional income.
  • Efforts to utilize potential funding from the Employee Retention Credit have resulted in favorable actions by the IRS. The Employee Retention Credit (ERC) – sometimes called the Employee Retention Tax Credit or ERTC – is a refundable tax credit for certain eligible businesses and tax-exempt organizations that had employees and were affected during the COVID-19 pandemic. To date, we have received a significant refund from this tax credit. The funds have been deposited in the Operational Reserve bank account at FNBT Texas. The use of these funds will be evaluated on an individual basis.

Expenses

  • Expenses have continued to rise as aging equipment fails and needs repair or replacement. Recently, two large water heaters serving the main complex, including the CDC, were found to have leaks. These units are 100-gallon electric models and replacement costs are $16,100 per unit in addition to time and material for installation.
  • Fortunately, total Operations Expense for 2024 was $31,485.39 less than 2023.

Volunteers needed!!! Deedy Encalade has graciously offered to help plan and conduct VBS this year!! MANY MORE VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED! If you helped last year; please consider doing so again this year. If you are new to the church, we would LOVE to have you come join us. Our theme this year is "Road Trip." If anyone has a child's motorized vehicle or a large, plastic car, and would be willing to let the church use it, please let us know. Please look for a “first meeting date” soon.

- Easter Egg Hunt -

The children will have an EASTER EGG HUNT on Saturday, April 12, 2025 (the Saturday before Palm Sunday), from 10:00-11:00. We have plenty of eggs; but will need candy donations. Donation boxes are now in the Welcome Center until April 6, 2025.

- Texas Tea -

Ladies and girls of the church, please join us on May 3, from 1:00-2:30, for "Texas Tea" in the Fellowship Hall. Please bring a tea cup from home for an ice breaker table discussion (extras will be available at the event). The program will be about "Influential Texas Women" Gov. Ann Richards, Mary Kay Ashley, Lady Bird Johnson, and Simone Biles. There will be door prizes, a menu of tea (hot & cold) and lemonade, tea sandwiches, fruit, and desserts.

Something to crow about...
