Pastor's Post

Good-bye,

Lynn

Hello,

Zel!

With sadness, First United Methodist Church, Killeen says good bye to our former Part-time Administrative Assistant, Lynn Bedard. Lynn and her family have chosen to move back home to Massachusetts. Lynn has been instrumental in making some necessary changes to our online record keeping. Lynn also served as a leader in the FUMC Choir. Her organizational skills are impeccable. Lynn will continue being present with us for services until the date of her move is determined. She will be sorely missed.

Welcome Zel Heaney!

First United Methodist Church welcomes Zel Heaney to our staff as the new, Part-time Administrative Assistant. Zel is also serving as our new Guiding Young Minds (GYM), Youth Sunday school leader. Zel is partnering with Pastor Beverly in providing the Children's Message on Sunday mornings. She is helping us with advertising and marketing. Finally, she is working with our CDC on their marketing strategies. Zel comes to us from Northwest Hills First United Methodist, Austin. She joined us and has hit the ground running!

The theme for the Horizon Texas Annual Conference 2026 is "Love Boldly". The Annual Conference will be held at the Wichita Falls Multi-Purpose Event Center in the Ray Clymer Exhibit Hall 1000 5th Street, Wichita Falls, TX 76301. - Bishop's Rally -

The 2026 Bishop’s Rally is upcoming on Sunday, April 12, from 2:00 - 5:00 right here! Registration is currently available online at:

https://htc.regfox.com/bishops-rally-killeen-umc-

This year's theme, Called, reminds us of God's words to Jeremiah: "Do not say, 'I am only a youth'; for you shall go to all to whom I send you, and you shall speak whatever I command you" (Jeremiah 1:7). Just as Jeremiah was called as a young person, our students are called today-called to live as disciples, called to share their voices, and called to make a difference in the world around them.

Bishop's Rally highlights the beauty of our connectional church, especially for confirmands and youth. Students will see that they are not just the future of the church-they are the NOW of the church.

This event is a chance to listen to their voices, celebrate their gifts, and encourage both Gen Z and Gen Alpha with the message of inspiration and hope.

We encourage every youth to attend and experience this time together.

- Support For Our Pianist -

Last year, we asked and Julie McBride gave up playing the piano for several other churches (she kept only her Seventh Day Adventist Church job). We chose to make up the cost for her having lost that income. Members from the Navigators Sunday School Class supported the total cost of Julie's salary last year. That money has been expended. Julie continues to do a FABULOUS job playing for our church. We have had a few donations toward her salary; but what has been received is not nearly enough. If you would like to support Julie's salary for another year, please specify your donation to the church to ensure Julie's employment for the coming church year, which begins July 1, 2026.

- Grant Writing Teams -

We are looking to form a few Grant Writing Teams. If this is something you are interested and/or skilled in, please contact the church office. This also will be a conversation introduced at our next finance meeting.

- Attendance Book -

Please register your attendance in the Attendance Registration Log each week. This helps us to report church attendance and participation in church functions to the annual conference. Accurate reporting is important.

If you're watching online, thank you for joining us and please make sure to leave a comment.
