South District Conference
Sunday May 3rd at FUMC Belton (3:00)
| | |
UMC District Conference meetings are deeply rooted in Wesleyanism. They are typically presided over by the District Superintendent and consist of clergy and lay delegates, who serve to conduct essential district business, facilitate connectional ministry, and align local church goals with the broader Annual Conference and denominational goals. They promote collaboration, share resources, and provide training to empower laity for the mission field.
The District Conference serves several purposes:
-
Serves as a Preliminary Conference to the year's Annual Conference.
-
Connectional Structure: Functioning as a link between the local congregation and the wider UMC structure.
-
Mission and Strategy: Reviewing and evaluating the total mission of the district and local churches to strengthen vitality.
-
Leadership Development: Identifying and equipping lay and clergy leadership for district committees, such as missions and ministry.
-
Administrative Functions: Dealing with specific district-level work and organizing supporting local churches.
The spring District Conference often serves as a Pre-Annual Conference, Conference. The DS may guide attendees through the Annual Conference Preliminary Report, highlighting specific portions of the report, which may require specific attention and/or preliminary actions. The Assistant to the Bishop often has a message for the district floor, regarding what is to be expected at the coming Annual Conference. The bishop may meet with each district via a pre-recorded, Zoom message. His message is often one of welcome and encouragement.
Each District Superintendent sets the agenda for the District Conference. Some DSs have an actual worship service and conduct the business of the district, following the worship service. Other DSs have just an informative business session.
Clergy and laity are encouraged to attend. Church leadership (Local Church Clergy, The District Lay Leader, The Local Church Lay Leader, and Lay Members/Delegates to the Annual Conference), should be in attendance to stay informed, regarding what the expectations are for the coming Annual Conference. The information shared at District Conference should be relayed to the local church body, when applicable. If you have never attended a United Methodist District Conference, I encourage you to do so. The experience is often a reunion for clergy and laity who have been conferencing together for fifty plus years! New members to the local church and annual conference are encouraged to experience the District Conference, to meet their district leaders: DS, District Administrators, the Assistant to the Bishop, etc.…
These gatherings are distinct from, but often work alongside, Charge Conferences (which have a local church focus) and Annual Conferences (which have a regional church focus).
OUR SOUTH DISTRICT CONFERENCE IS SUNDAY, MAY 3rd, AT FUMC, BELTON (3:00 pm). The location is 205 E. 3rd Avenue, Belton, Tx. 76513.
DO NOT LET THE LACK OF TRANSPORTATION BE YOUR EXCUSE FOR NOT COMING. WE WILL HAVE A SIGN-UP SHEET IN THE WELCOME CENTER FOR ANYONE WHO WOULD LIKE TO RIDE WITH US ON THE CHURCH VAN (WHICH HOLDS 15 PASSENGERS), OR COMMUTE TO BELTON, BY CONVOY. WE WILL GATHER AT FUMC, KILLEEN AT 2:00, AND SHOULD BE IN BELTON WELL IN ADVANCE OF THE CONFERENCE.
| | It has been a wonderful Lenten Season. I want to thank everyone who attended our 2026 Lenten Lessons. Thank you to everyone who participated in offering a meal to the attendees. A special thanks goes out to those who offered our table decorations. We had no fewer than 35-40 (often having 50+) in attendance at each lesson, THIS IS OUTSTANDING PARTICIPATION! It took everyone working together in the following ways: printing the question cards and handouts, preparing sign-in sheets, passing out and picking up leftover handouts, money collections, meal preparations (setting up and cleaning up following the study), table decorations, playing the piano for the service, setting up tables, chairs, and the microphone for the studies. So many of you did so much. Most importantly, you were there! Let's meet again next year, for the 2027 Lenten Lessons! | | The current GriefShare Session began on January 14th. The 2026 Bishop’s Rally is upcoming on Sunday, April 12, from 2:00 - 5:00 right here! Registration is currently available online at:
https://htc.regfox.com/bishops-rally-killeen-umc-
This year's theme, Called, reminds us of God's words to Jeremiah: "Do not say, 'I am only a youth'; for you shall go to all to whom I send you, and you shall speak whatever I command you" (Jeremiah 1:7). Just as Jeremiah was called as a young person, our students are called today-called to live as disciples, called to share their voices, and called to make a difference in the world around them.
Bishop's Rally highlights the beauty of our connectional church, especially for confirmands and youth. Students will see that they are not just the future of the church-they are the NOW of the church.
This event is a chance to listen to their voices, celebrate their gifts, and encourage both Gen Z and Gen Alpha with the message of inspiration and hope.
We encourage every youth to attend and experience this time together.
| | We are looking to form a few Grant Writing Teams. If this is something you are interested and/or skilled in, please contact the church office. This also will be a conversation introduced at our next finance meeting. | | |
Please register your attendance in the Attendance Registration Log each week. This helps us to report church attendance and participation in church functions to the annual conference. Accurate reporting is important.
If you're watching online, thank you for joining us and please make sure to leave a comment.
