New Library Project Update
A Message from the Board of Library Trustees
The appeal by Amy Baldwin of the Zoning Board of Appeal’s (ZBA) decision to grant relief for the library project has been dismissed by the land court judge. The judge’s conclusion states: “A final judgment will enter in favor of SSBC and the Sharon Zoning Board of Appeals, and against Baldwin.” You may read the decision here.
The three-year delay caused by this case and the previous ZBA denial have resulted in additional costs for the project. On May 1, Town Meeting will decide whether the Town will either appropriate already gathered tax monies to pay for the overage or abandon the project. Abandoning the project would entail:
1. Forfeiting the grant
2. Wasting the approximately 1.6M already spent
3. Starting a new project to ensure Sharon has a functioning library, which likely will cost taxpayers more than the current project.

Adult Graphic Novels - Newly Updated!
Since the start of 2023, one of our goals at Sharon Public Library has been to strengthen our Adult Graphic Novel collection.
With this goal in mind, we have ordered many new and exciting titles that span all genres - from horror to fantasy to superheroes to memoirs to mysteries to popular movie/TV/video game adaptations - with even more to come!
We invite you to visit and see what's new to our collection (of few of which are pictured here)!

Patrons are welcome to browse unlimited articles on Newsbank via an active Sharon Public Library card. A wonderful perk is that one may easily 'clip' articles (custom drag and drop to screencapture) for saving/printing!

HP Chromebooks: Now Available to Circulate! | |
HP Chromebooks are now available at Sharon Public Library to check out and bring home!
The HP Chromebooks - which come equipped with a laptop charger, mouse, mousepad, headphones, laptop bag + shoulder strap, and instruction sheet - offer easy access to Zoom and Google Workshop applications plus internet browsing.
They may be checked out as a 14-day loan (local holds only) with a potential of one renewal.

The Sharon Public Library Veterans Club Presents
A Year in Iraq: The View from
a Combat Support Hospital
with SPL Veterans Club member, Joseph Blansfield
April 10th @ 10 - 12 noon
(Rescheduled from March)
Joseph was the Deputy Commander and Chief of Nursing Services for the 399th Combat Support Hospital in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. This presentation will describe how our US Army Reserve unit in Massachusetts performed split-based operations in Mosul, Tikrit and then Anbar Province. They were responsible for all medical care and stabilization/evacuation for all Coalition forces, Iraqi Army and Police as well as Enemy Prisoners of War within the northern and western Iraq Theater of Operations. No registration required.

Lindbergh Baby Kidnapping Trial with Judge Dennis Curran (Ret'd)
April 11th @ 7:00 PM via Zoom
Measured by the public interest it generated, the trial of Bruno Richard Hauptmann, the accused kidnapper of the baby of the aviator Charles Lindbergh, stands with the O.J. Simpson and Scopes Monkey trials as among the most famous trials of the twentieth century.
The trial features America's greatest hero, ransom notes, and voices in dark cemeteries, a crime that is every parent's worst nightmare, and a German-born defendant who fought against the United States in World War I. The many mysteries surrounding this case continue to haunt. Did Hauptmann really do it? You be the judge.
Registration required; participants will receive the Zoom link with their registration confirmation email.

Tech with Tim:
Basic Google Search Strategies
April 12th @ 6:00 PM
Technology specialist, Tim Lumnah, will demonstrate the basics of Google alongside effective search strategies to help you yield the best Google results. This class is geared toward beginner search strategies, with the potential of advanced search strategies in a future class.
Tim got his start helping people with tech by building websites and later becoming the go-to person for tech assistance when the IT department couldn't resolve an issue. He now has his own business, Computer Tutor, that helps people keep up with the fast pace of today's technology.
Participants should bring their smart devices/phones to class; laptops are optional.

Elizabeth Gonzalez James
"A Comedy of Failures:
My Path to Publication"

The Friends of the Sharon Public Library invite you to this presentation with local author, Elizabeth Gonzalez James.
Elizabeth Gonzalez James is the author of the novels Mona at Sea (2021) and The Bullet Swallower (2024), as well as the chapbook, Five Conversations About Peter Sellers (2023). Her stories and essays have appeared in The Idaho Review, Southern Humanities Review, The Rumpus, StorySouth, PANK, and elsewhere, and have received numerous Pushcart Prize and Best of the Net nominations. Originally from South Texas, Elizabeth now lives with her family in Sharon.
Light refreshments will be available.

Radio Turns 100
with Mike Morin
April 27th @ 6:00 PM
Join longtime New England radio and TV personality, Mike Morin, as he hosts an in-person multi-media presentation about radio's golden age. The presentation will include original audio clips (dating back to 1920) of celebrities such as Lucille Ball, Milton Berle, Jack Benny, Groucho Marx; and key historic moments such as War of the Worlds and FDR's Fireside Chats. It will also highlight female performers and early African American hosts, many of whom had very little exposure outside of the Black community. It will wrap up with humorous, untold stories of modern radio, and with an unexpectedly touching and funny interview by Mike Morin himself, with a sitting president the day before the election.
The approximately one-hour presentation will be followed by Q&A and discussion. Mike will be available after the program to sell/sign his memoir, Fifty Shades of Radio: True Stories of a Morning Radio Guy Being Wired, Tired and Fired.
