Students in grade 9, 10, 11 or 12 and attending school in Windsor-Essex County, are reminded to check their immunization record (the yellow card they received when they got their first vaccine) to make sure they’re up-to-date on their vaccines. As per The Immunization of School Pupils Act (ISPA) “all students in Ontario are to be up-to-date on immunizations. Public health units are to maintain and review vaccine records for every student attending school in their region and those not up-to-date can be suspended from school for up to 20 days”.
Community Immunization Clinics are Available!
For students who require the vaccines that they would normally receive in school; the Hepatitis, HPV, or Meningococcal vaccine (the Meningococcal vaccine is required for school by the ISPA), can schedule an appointment at one of the catch-up immunization clinics the WECHU is hosting across Windsor-Essex throughout the summer. An appointment can be made online at wechu.org/getimmunized, or by calling 519-258-2146 extension 4500. Students requiring other vaccines required by the ISPA, can reach out to their primary health care provider to get these vaccines.
What Can Students Do if They Received Their Vaccines from Their Health Care Provider?
During the COVID-19 pandemic, students may have received vaccines from their health care provider. Parent(s)/guardian(s) are responsible for reporting these vaccines to the WECHU. Immunization records can be updated by one of the following ways:

Having Updated Immunization Records Protects our Community
Ensuring that the WECHU has updated immunization records for all students in Windsor-Essex County is important to help prevent the spread of vaccine preventable diseases. Health Units are required to maintain and review immunization records for every student attending school in their region. Students who are either overdue for one or more vaccines, or who have not submitted their updated records to the Health Unit by September can be suspended from school for up to 20 days.
