Message from the Chief

I want to take this time to acknowledge the American Canyon Fire Protection District's 2017/18 Firefighter of the Year, Firefighter Kent Barnes. FF Barnes not only works here in American Canyon, he also lives here so whether he is on-duty or off-duty he has consistently been active in the community. Kent started with the District as a Reserve FF and after 3 years successfully became a full time career firefighter in January of 2009. Early on in his career, while working as a full time firefighter, Kent successfully completed the NVC Paramedic program and is now one of the Districts 9 Paramedic qualified firefighters. Kent has led the Fire Districts Relay for Life team for the past 9 years. Kent has also been a member of the Districts Urban Search & Rescue Team for over 10 years. Kent has recently distinguished himself with meritorious service by his contribution of teaching (county-wide) as a member of the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) instructor cadre. His efforts assisting with the “American Canyon CERT” program are also notable and appreciated. Kent serves as the fire department liaison to the AC-CERT advisory board.

Firefighter Barnes consistently demonstrates a willingness to take on additional special assignments. Examples include assisting with teaching young members of the community through the Districts Fire Explorer Program and with the California Cadet Academy.

Finally, Firefighter Barnes also deserves to be recognized for his continuing desire to better himself. Throughout Kent’s career with the District he has consistently pursued continuing formal education and fire service qualifications.
Notable Incident

On Wednesday, March 7th, Engine 11 was dispatched to a reported structure fire. On arrival Engine 11 found that the fire was in a dumpster adjacent to apartment buildings. The fire was confined to the dumpster with no extension or damage to the structure. This is an example of how rapid responses to fire incidents can significantly reduce damage and/or injuries.
