The Fall is a beautiful time to visit the shop in Northern Virginia.
Fall has arrived and after a very rainy few months we are hoping for beautiful autumn weather. Here in the Studio, it's a busy time with our annual shop hop, Quilters' Quest, now in October. Don't miss the details below.

We have a full slate of classes coming up including my favorite class to teach, Quiltmaking by Hand.

We have much to tell you in this month's newsletter so make sure you scroll all the way through to the bottom to catch everything including the next clue in our Kyoto Mystery.

My New Quilt, Piñata, Featuring Malam VI Batiks
Named after the brightly colored, goody-filled containers found at celebrations, my new Piñata quilt features the vibrant fabrics  from my latest batik collection, Malam VI.

Piñata gives the appearance of overlapping diamonds. It is pieced in rows and assembled in quadrants. It is framed using my traditional no-math method for mitering borders. The quilt finishes at 68" x 75" with your choice of a light or dark background.

Malam VI Fat Quarter Bundles
Don't forget that the fabrics featured in my new Piñata quilt are available by the yard or in fat quarter bundles of the two groups, lights and brights, and also in four smaller shaded bundles of 9-10 fabrics each.

Quilters' Quest is Almost Here!
Tall buildings rise from the azure sea against a backdrop of blue mountains and sky.
We are busy here at the Studio preparing to receive the many quilters who will visit us during the 10 days of the Quest running from October 19th through the 28th.  It's anchors aweigh as the S.S. Quilters' Quest cruises to 10 different ports of call. Each shop features a specially designed quilt in a sea glass palette of colors along with free patterns, fabulous prizes and lots of fun throughout the 10 participating shops. Finish the Quest by visiting all the shops and you'll get a free tote plus a reward card which entitles you to receive a 15% discount on regularly priced merchandise at all the shops throughout the coming year.

Our Quest quilt, Waikiki, uses the Quest Cuts, 2 ½" strips, cruisers can pick up at each shop. Using these same fabrics, we have additional quilts and projects. Plus, we have a few spaces left on one of our buses for those who would like to leave the driving to someone else.

Tip - Getting Perspective on Your Layout
For this month's Kyoto Mystery clue I think you will find having a design wall to be quite helpful. This past spring while teaching out of town, I had the use of a design wall - Cheryl Ann's Design Wall - and thought it was great! It arrived in a small tote bag and was easily assembled in just minutes. It was wonderful to have my fabric patches firmly gripped on the wall as I created a design and then when we finished it was quickly packed away.

You can learn more about the design walls we carry on our website.

Kyoto Mystery - Clue 7
Last month you began to assemble units and this month you join those units together as your quilt center takes shape. There are many options for how you can put this all together so don't miss seeing the possibilities in the video lesson.

There are many different ways your units can be put together and each one results in a different design. Watch this month's video lesson for fascinating images of all the variations. Here are just three of the many possibilities.

This is a free program available to just our newsletter subscribers. Each newsletter will have a link to a new clue and video lesson plus you will have access to all past clues. Just click on the link below.
