My quilt Olde World Star inspired the design of both my quilt garden and the iron railing on the pathway leading to the garden.
Our new website launched last week! It has taken a tremendous amount of work and has not been without challenges, but we are pleased with the new website and hope you are too. Thank you for your patience as we continue to make improvements.

We have a busy month ahead of us. I've been preparing my home as part of the Historic Virginia Garden Week tour and getting ready for the classes I will be teaching during this time. Plus, you've been keeping us all busy making kits for our new BOM, Kyoto Mystery. Today is the day that the first clue is revealed. Scroll down for the link to the clue and video lesson and on the way down, don't miss all of the other news.
Kyoto Mystery Kits, Notions & Tips
  • Kits
Now that the first clue is released, it is time to get to sewing. For those of you who want to leave the fabric selecting to us, we have put together Kyoto Mystery kits in a choice of four colorways. You can see each of these colorways with the fabrics I've chosen and order kits and pre-printed templates here.
  • Useful Notions
As in past BOM projects, I've put together a few of my basic tools which will help you get started on your project. And if you are a subscriber to our Weekly Web Special emails, you know that some of them are on sale this week. Visit our Weekly Web Special page here.
  • Tip - Making Your Own Templates
For many of my quilts including Kyoto Mystery, templates are needed. While we have pre-printed templates available, did you know that it is easy to print your own?

Visit our "Tips and Lessons" page for Making Quick Work of Creating Templates to learn how to print directly on our Jinny Beyer Template Film. We recommend that first you print a copy onto paper to check to see that you are printing to the correct size.

As you set up the printing, make sure that it is set to print the actual size (100%, no scaling) not "fit to page." Once you have printed it out, please note the gauge on the template and measure to make sure it has printed in the correct size.

New! Amber Waves Table Runner
Using the vibrant fabrics from my Amber Waves collection, former staffer Barbara Hollinger created this striking table runner featuring various sizes of a 60° triangle.
The A mber Waves Table Runner is a simple project with big impact. Patches are assembled into pyramids then simply sewn together into rows. With all straight-seam sewing, this is a terrific project for the intermediate sewer and beyond.

The table runner finishes at 13" x 78" and comes in two colorways, autumn and twilight. Kits include the pattern and all fabrics needed plus backing.

Take a Ride with Us on the Quilters' Quest Bus
This year's Quilters' Quest runs October 19th through the 28th. The Quest is a fun-filled, free event that encourages quilters to explore 10 quilt shops in Maryland and Northern Virginia over the course of 10 days. If visiting all ten shops seems a bit daunting, join the fun on one of our two Studio buses and leave the driving to us.

For dates, details and to register, click here.

Back in Stock - Quiltmaking by Hand Book

We've waited a long time to get our hands on more of these books and they are finally here! This is the book for beginner and experienced quilters interested in sewing and quilting by hand, guiding you through everything you need to know about choosing the right tools, making templates, cutting fabric patches, and sewing blocks.

See My Home on the House & Garden Tour
My home and gardens plus those of three others have been selected as part of the Garden Club of Virginia's House and Garden Tour on Tuesday, April 24th, from 10am to 4pm. The houses are located in McLean, Great Falls and Vienna. Look on your news stands for the March/April issue of Horticulture magazine which has a nice article on the garden tour with a six page article on our home and gardens.

The tickets are $40 a piece before Monday, 5 p.m. and then $50 the day of the tour. They are available at the Studio and online. Visit the Garden Club of Virginia for more information.

In conjunction with this, I will be at the shop all that day to autograph books and to demo some of my favorite tools. In the days following the tour, I will be teaching several classes and lecturing.

Click here to see the entire Studio class schedule. And don't forget, I will be teaching at the Quilters Unlimited Show a few weeks later.
