January 2026

Letter from NJAPSE President and Vice President

As NJAPSE begins 2026, we would like to express our thanks for our member’s support, note 2025’s accomplishments and let you know about NJAPSE’s goals for the upcoming year.

Keeping in line with NJAPSE’s efforts to work collaboratively with the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation Services , promote Employment First and provide an avenue for NJAPSE membership to share concerns with DVRS, we plan to continue our important dialogue with Division leadership in the pursuit of high quality vocational services for New Jerseyans living with disabilities.

A major focus this year will be increasing and communicating to membership the value of being a part of NJAPSE. Currently, membership privileges include access to the free APSE learning portal which contains hours of practical training and lessons related to employment of persons living with disabilities. The Development Committee regularly holds events, which are free to NJAPSE members and can help agencies meet training hour requirements. Members are also welcome to participate in any NJAPSE committee, which is an excellent place to network and learn from your colleagues across the State. Additionally, the Board plans to make more transparent the accomplishments of NJAPSE as well as inform members how they can contribute to positive changes in policies, practices and procedures.

We are looking forward to a productive 2026, as always, NJAPSE leadership is here to answer any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to us at newjerseyapse@gmail.com

Training Opportunities

Supported Employment Leadership Institute

March 3rd - 4th, 2026 | 9:30am-4:00pm

Employees often become supervisors because the success and leadership potential they displayed in a previous role resulted in a promotion. However, being an effective supervisor does not come automatically with the new job title. Rather, one must intentionally develop a set of skills in areas such as leadership, vision, recruitment, and organization. Our Supported Employment Leadership Institute is a 2-day, in-person, interactive course designed specifically for supported employment managers and supervisors. During this course, participants will dive into solution-focused, evidence-based strategies to address challenges unique to supported employment managers.

Topics will include: The hallmarks of effective supervisors, exploring the challenges of hiring and maintaining qualified job coaches, strategies for supervising remote workers, the importance of collecting program data and how to meaningfully utilize it to improve services and documentation challenges unique to supported employment supports.
