July 6, 2019

We just had a great week of fun with the grandchildren with lots of projects, excursions and a trip to Nationals Park for a ballgame. Now it is time to tackle the garden and begin my season of freezing and canning, finish our shop hop quilt and work on new fabric and quilt designs.

A spectacular quilt, updates on fun quilting adventures, quilt tips and the next lesson for Stellaris can all be found in this month's newsletter.
Flowers for My Wedding Ring
Judel and myself in front of this lovely quilt.
What a wonderful opportunity I had this past year collaborating with Judy and Judel Niemeyer in their redesign of  this incredible quilt. Their classic Quiltworx pattern now features my Malam Batiks.

The Flowers for My Wedding Ring fabric kit with my batiks is a limited edition kit. It is available with two options for the background fabric, dark or light, and finishes at 87" x 100". The fabric kits include everything you need to make the top with one appliqué corner plus the binding. The pattern is available separately.

Also recommended is the Creative Grids Double Wedding Ring Templates Quilt Ruler designed by Judy. This four-piece set comes with fully illustrated step-by-step instructions or you can scan the QR Code printed on the ruler to view a video demonstration.

Row by Row is Underway
We've already had lots of visitors from across the country stopping in for their free Row by Row patterns. Our ten area Quilters' Quest shops have coordinated their patterns so you can create a special "diner" quilt based on the theme, "Taste the Experience."

And for those of you who can't visit, don't miss our two Forklift quilts.  Read my blog for more information on how Row by Row works.
Quilters' Quest Preview
As we have done in the past, we ten Quest shop owners got together to make plans for our shop hop and to create a fun video for our 2019 Quilters' Quest coming October 11 - 20. It will "premiere" on the Quilters' Quest website soon.

This year our theme is about books and we are going on a book tour. Each shop will feature a favorite book to inspire special projects. Since we always like to encourage children to quilt, we have chosen the classic Mary Frances series of books where a young girl is taught to sew by the notions in her sewing basket which come to life. My 10 year old granddaughter was visiting this past week and she started reading the book and couldn't put it down.
Classes in August
Learning to quilt by hand is so relaxing.
In my Studio classes last month, the students requested two more classes they would like to take. So, I scheduled each of them next month.

Color Confidence will take the fear out of choosing fabric colors for your quilt.  In this hands-on lecture/demo, I'll show you how easy it is to create your own unique palette.

Handwork and hand quilting are making a comeback! Learn what you need to know to hand quilt from choosing the design to perfecting your stitches.

Quilting Tip - Marking Seam Intersections
Such a simple, yet handy gadget!

In this month's Stellaris lesson, you will be cutting a lot of unusual angles with your templates. When you are working on projects like this and assembling pieces with such angles, it is very important to mark your seam intersections to make your sewing easier and more accurate. This is where I find a 1/16" hole punch to be an invaluable tool. I simply punch a hole through the dot on my template and can precisely transfer the mark onto my fabric.
2019 BOM, Stellaris - Lesson #4
Last month you learned about working with border print fabrics and how to use them to make the eye-catching stars.  And joining three points should no longer seem like a scary procedure.

In this month's lesson, we will be assembling the quilt's corners. You will learn to effectively use a mini-strip fabric, sew together oddly shaped pieces and discover that what looks like a complicated process can actually be quite easy.

This is a free program available to just our newsletter subscribers. Each newsletter will have a link to a new written and video lesson plus you will have access to all past lessons.
