Chopping a paisley, part of the batik making process.
In August 2013, my first batik collection, Malam, arrived in stores. Since then, I've added five more collections of the Malam batiks. That's a lot of fabric so we have chosen our favorites and have done something special with them for you.

Around the Studio, I've been getting ready for two very different shop hops. The Row by Row Experience, a worldwide shop hop, begins next month and we have a peek at our two free patterns for it. And, even though it is still several months away, we have news on Quilters' Quest, our regional shop hop.

And, finally, don't forget to read through to the bottom where you'll find not only the next lesson for Stellaris, our technique for the month quilt, but also see the new colorway for the Stellaris table runner.
Best of Malam Spindle Strips
What are "spindle strips?" It is RJR's new name for pixies, or 2 ½" strips. Now I have gone through my first five Malam Batik collections and selected the very best. These fabrics can now be found in my new Spindle Strips.
The Best of Malam fabrics have been broken into four groups of 40 fabrics each. The groups - Berry Basket, Sunrise, Tropical Waters and Rain Forest - are all beautifully shaded and have no repeated fabrics to create the Spindle Strip rolls.

The Best of Malam Spindle Strips are available. Watch for projects in next month's newsletter or use them now for your own favorite strip patterns.
A Super Harlequin Charm Video Tutorial
Donna Jordon of Jordon Fabrics in Grants Pass, Oregon, recently featured my Harlequin Charm quilt in one of her online videos. Using the FREE PATTERN from our website and one of my Palette Charm packs which feature all 150 of my shaded palette fabrics, Donna takes you step by step through the making of this quilt. As a bonus, she also shows you how to make pillows with the leftover fabric scraps. You can watch Donna's video here.

Next month, I will be releasing an updated pattern for this quilt which features the new Best of Malam Spindle Strips.  Watch for it in the June newsletter.

If you are interested in making this easy and fun quilt now, we have Harlequin Charm kits available.  The kits include everything you need to make this quilt top. For more information on the kits and the F REE PATTERN download, click here.

Another option is to simply choose to purchase just the charm pack of all 150 Palette fabrics.  For more information on our Palette Collection Charm Squares, click here.
Row by Row Experience
The 2019 Row by Row Experience kicks off June 21. This international shop hop has quilters hitting the road to visit participating quilt shops and collecting free "row" patterns which can then be used to create quilts based on this year's theme, "Taste the Experience."

We will have two free patterns. Our first, "Forklift," is a fun, tessellated pattern featuring...a fork! In addition, we have joined with our fellow Quilters' Quest shops to create vintage diner signs which can be joined together to make a yummy quilt.  Our sign, "Hot Stuff," pictures a jar of my homemade hot pepper jam which I make every year.

Hop on the Quilters' Quest Bus
This year's Quilters' Quest runs October 11th through the 20th. The Quest is a fun-filled, free event that encourages quilters to explore 10 quilt shops in Maryland and Northern Virginia over the course of 10 days. If visiting all ten shops seems a bit daunting, join the fun on one of our two Studio buses.

At each shop, collect a FREE unique quilt pattern. The patterns use the exclusive Quest cuts that you can purchase throughout your travels.

Each store will have daily drawings plus, after you visit all 10 shops, you will be eligible to win one of several grand prizes.

When you have finished, claim your finishing bag and reward card. The reward card will entitle you to receive a 15% discount on regularly priced merchandise (some exclusions apply) at each shop throughout the following year.
