ReelAbilities Screening: YOU. SLEEP. STAY.

Saturday, November 15

1-3:30 pm

Columbus Museum of Art

Details and tickets: https://events.humanitix.com/apo-yousleepstay

Join us for a safe and supportive conversation as we delve into the themes presented in You. Sleep. Stay. This facilitated discussion aims to provide a space for participants to express their feelings, share insights, and explore personal responses to the documentary.

Mindfulness Coach Daron Larson will introduce an emotional regulation strategy inspired by the cinematic process. Following the screening, he will invite participants to discuss the difference between moving and manipulating an audience, where this film falls on that continuum, and the power of individual empathy to drive social change.

A Note from Rev. Seth Stearns

Greetings, Beloved Community!

We had a wonderful weekend with Pete Enns during our Spiritual Searcher weekend on October 4 and 5. It was a joy to partner with the Washington Gladden Social Justice Park and First Congregational Church for the weekend. We had over 150 attendees for the Saturday event. Pete then preached all three services on Sunday. Additionally, he was able to spend time with the youth at Crossroads and engaged in some great conversations with the youth group.

On October 19th the SLLC partnered with the Spirituality Network and the Interfaith Association of Central Ohio (IACO) as we hosted the Living Faith Awards at First Community North, Wing Grace Hall. It was an inspiring event as we learned about and celebrated amazing individuals doing amazing things in the community. One of the award recipients was FC’s own Isaiah Wood for his volunteer work at Heart to Heart as well as other ministries.

We will begin a two-week series on the promise and problems of Artificial Intelligence (AI) during our Thursdays at 10 discussion group beginning this Thursday. We will attempt to cover the following topics:

  • An overview introducing what AI is.
  • Key terms often used when discussing AI.
  • Examples as to how we as consumers can use AI.
  • The environmental impact of data center growth.
  • The existential threat that AI may present as described by the godfather of AI, Geoffery Hinton.

We may use screen sharing to do real time demonstration of AI using some prompts. Given the growing role of AI in our lives, we hope you will find these discussions informative, relevant, and fascinating. You may also find them terrifying. Consider inviting others to join the conversation.

We are excited to head back out to Marengo, Ohio and the Circle P Horse Sanctuary for our next Contemplative Group Experience on Saturday, November 15th from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. Spiritual Director, Beckie Boger, will lead us in an experience of presence with the horses titled, Wisdom of the Wild. Transportation from South will be provided. We only have a few slots remaining so please register ASAP.

We hope that you are enjoying the arrival of Fall. Thank you for your support of the SLLC programming and we look forward to seeing you at our upcoming events.

Blessings,
