A Message from Pastor Abby

The year of April and month of Maycember are over -  summer has arrived! It’s time for tan lines, beach trips, mountain relaxation, ball games, all-natural Vitamin D, vacations, weekend trips, and summer campfires. As much as I enjoy vacations, it’s (usually) always good to be back home and get back into routine. Whether you work or you don’t and whether you have kids/grandkids or you don’t - summer schedules tend to be a little different. Amidst that shifting schedule what’s your routine? Where’s your community?

“Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.” - Hebrews 10:24-25 (NLT)

On Sunday’s we’ve been looking at what it means to live into what Christ calls us to in The Great Commission (Matthew 28) and live our lives “On Mission”. Part of that is being “God’s Community in Community”. Sometimes in the summer, with our ever-shifting schedules, travels, and nice weather, we can lose site of gathering together as a part of God’s Community. The author of Hebrews reminds us that we should not neglect meeting together but instead encourage each other and motivate each other… even in the summer. Many churches slow down or pause several regular meetings and gatherings during the summer months. I get it… it can be more difficult to plan when you don’t know who will show up, sometimes you just need a break, and what on Earth do you do when you put in all the effort, and no one shows up?

There is no easy answer - but I do know that we’re called to continue meeting, continue encouraging, continue motivating, and continue in acts of love and good works. Maybe it looks different in the summer, maybe it’s reimagined into something new or different during the next three months - that’s ok. Every Sunday when we gather for communal worship it’s like a family reunion; it’s like being home after traveling - you are a part of that. So, between the ball games, the ocean visits, the concerts, the backyard games, the sleepovers, the trips to visit family - how are you staying connected? How are you meeting together in God’s community? Where are you living “On Mission” in the middle of the summer bustle?

On Mission with Christ and with you,

Pastor Abby

Volunteers Needed!

Adult and high school student volunteers needed for Aley’s Music Camp!

June 23, 25, 27 from

8:00 am until 12:30 pm.

We need team leaders, youth assistants, and general volunteers for check in/out, craft helpers, etc.

Please contact Cheri Warner at cookiecaw@aol.com, on Facebook, or in person (2nd service attendee).

Special Music Needed!

As the chancel choir and bell choir take a break for the summer, we have a need for Special Music during the 8:30 am service.

If you are a singer or instrumentalist who would be willing to share your talents, please contact Pam Rauch at choir@aleyumc.org or text/call at (937) 760-3222 to get on the schedule.

If you need accompaniment, Tracey McKibben will be available to provide that, and if you want help with your selection, Pam Rauch will be available Thursday evenings to work with you.

Both youth and adults are encouraged to share solo or ensemble selections with the congregation.

ALEY FINANCE COMMITTEE

On-Line Giving – Aley’s Finance Committee is always looking for ways to save money. The current on-line giving application, Clover Give, has become too expensive. Aley is charged a monthly usage fee plus transaction fees.

We have researched and chosen the Vanco application to replace the current Clover Give. We are in the migration phase of switching from Clover Give to Vanco. Please watch for further details in the Sunday bulletins and July’s newsletter.

Aley members who are giving regularly on-line will be contacted on how to switch to Vanco. We hope to be fully integrated into Vanco by July 1.

There will be no interruption to on-line giving during the migration. As always, Aley’s Finance Committee is committed to being great stewards of all financial assets.

Adult Ministry Discipleship

is Growing!

NEW! Foundations of Faith Group

Starting Sunday, June 1, a new adult Sunday morning group will begin gathering. We will learn together how to build a faith foundation or strengthen the faith we already have.

Join your group leaders: Pam Rader, Trent Rader, and Gail Simpson, and/or you can connect with them by email (found in the directory.)

No sign up needed, just join them in the former library located in the adult classroom hall at 9:40 am each week.

We still need several servants to help pack meals, please sign up and share with anyone who might be able to come help!

June 7 at 10:00 am we’ll be gathering in the hospitality center to pack sustainable meals that will be sent to countries with large food insecurity concerns. This opportunity provides a tangible way to share Jesus' love and individuals of all ages and abilities are invited to participate in this mission project!

Please sign up to serve on the 'Get Involved' page.

Come hang out with your Aley family on Sunday, June 8 at the Dayton Dragons game! Bring your friends and family and come enjoy a ballgame!

Reserve your tickets on the "Get Involved Page" and place your money in the offering or drop it off in the office with your family name and number of tickets clearly indicated.

SUPPORT RED BIRD MISSIONS

There will be 10 people from Aley going to Red Bird Mission August 3-8, and we need help from everyone to make it happen!

First, please be in prayer for the team and those at Red Bird Mission. Second, cost is approximately $575.00 per person and includes lodging, meals, and work materials.

If you feel called to financially support the team please give cash or check to Aley UMC and mark it "Red Bird Mission Support".

Lastly, we're looking for someone to lead a prayer/encouragement team for the week of the mission (this would be led by someone here, not someone going to Red Bird) - if you're interested in helping lead this vital effort, please reach out to Pastor Laurie or Pastor Abby.

We would like to celebrate all of those whose birthdays are in JUNE this month. You are special to us & deeply loved by God... Have a great You day!
