MESSAGE FROM THE DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC WORKS

The City of Corinth’s Public Works Department has 31 employees dedicated to maintaining and developing Corinth’s infrastructure. Our diverse department is made of five operating divisions that work in close coordination to deliver services to over 22,000 residents every day. We are responsible for the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of our network of roads, water, wastewater, and stormwater pipelines, as well as our 15 parks. From July to August of this year, the Public Works Team will focus on using existing resources to develop a more innovative and efficient system. In order to maintain the City’s public infrastructure as cost-effectively as possible, the Public Works Department plans to take on a more streamlined and creative approach to our daily tasks.    Residents can stay up-to-date on projects by following the City's social media accounts and can also sign up for text message alerts by texting MYUTILITIES to 888-777. In the next few months, the Public Works Department will provide transparency for Corinth residents in regard to the upcoming projects, division report cards, and system goals for the next fiscal year. CORINTH WORKS & STREET PROJECTS

Have you seen all of the Corinth Works posts popping up on our City social media accounts? Now that the rainy season has come to an end, the Public Works Department has hit the ground running on street improvements. The Streets Division is a six-team crew that maintains all eight square miles of the City, managing 476,000 linear feet of roads in addition to all of the city’s sidewalks and signs. Once developed, the Public Works website will regularly provide residents with updates about Streets Division projects.   Some of the projects that are ongoing or planned for this year include: Multiple areas on Post Oak Windridge Ln Vintage Circle Multiple areas on Meadowview Dr Vista Court Windmere Circle

PARKS & TRAILS

July is National Parks and Rec Month! In the United States, people visit their local parks more than twice a month, on average, with 1 in 10 visiting at least weekly, if not daily! Our parks and trails in Corinth are consistently among the top priorities for our residents. We are committed to maintaining the 15 parks and six trails for residents to enjoy year-round while also planning for additional amenities and growth within Corinth. This year, the Parks Division is working to improve drainage at the sports fields in our Community Parks. This project is the first step toward bringing youth tournaments back to the City of Corinth. Our eager Parks Crew has taken the lead in turning the City’s sports grounds into quality minor league fields. To assist with this goal, the Division has leased an autonomous field striper who will not only make the fields look more professional but will also free up employee time to focus on new park projects.    The Parks Crew is also working with the Corps of Engineers to gain access to the Elm Fork Trail, which will make walking trails to Lewisville Lake available to Corinth residents.  Click on the link below to view our Corinth parks and trails maps so you and your families can explore and enjoy all of the benefits nature has to offer.

STORMWATER

The Stormwater Utility Department monitors and maintains all Corinth storm drainage systems; schedules and performs maintenance of stormwater drainage systems, including mowing, brush control, weed-eating, and concrete repairs; and coordinates the design and construction of stormwater improvement projects. In response to the recent rains, the Stormwater Division is working on widening the Cliff Oaks channel to prevent further erosion around Fairview and Woods Park, as well as cleaning culverts throughout the City.

WATER & WASTEWATER

In August, the Water Division will begin maintenance of the Lake Sharon three-million-gallon storage tanks. The tanks will be taken out of service to be coated, as water tanks should be resurfaced every 20 years to ensure that they last as long as possible. This project will take five to six months. Updates will be provided via the City’s social media.   With the help of the City’s Fire Department, the Water Division will also be completing 400 fire hydrant inspections by the end of September. This will require flowing the hydrants to ensure that the system functions properly.   The Wastewater Division recently completed an Inflow & Infiltration Study on the system, using a smart manhole meter to track flows during dry weather and to compare them to flows during wet weather. This study was instrumental in finding the source of stormwater entering the 3A wastewater basin.    The Wastewater Division will begin preventative maintenance on the 3A Lift Station located in the Southwest area of the City. This maintenance will increase the life expectancy of the station by 40 years.

TREE MAINTENANCE

Public Works is partnering with the City of Denton to employ their tree maintenance contractor, who will begin work on the major roadways, raising sidewalk and street canopies to proper heights. In addition to this maintenance, the contractor will begin removing the 360 dead or dying trees throughout the City.
